Last day of Year One - Year One’s Got Talent!

Superheroes - what a way to finish a fantastic year of writing! The children were very surprised to find the evil pea had left a message in our classroom and trapped the fresh vegetables. All the children wrote brilliant stories based on the book Supertato! They were packed with adjectives, conjunctions and punctuation! Well done everyone 🌟👏🏻✏️

Year One Common Exception Words

We re-enacted Jesus’ first miracle, The Wedding Feast at Cana. We have been discussing how we can help others and be kind to one another.

Class Assembly - Miracles of Jesus & Memories of Year One! The children had a well deserved ice lolly this afternoon for their hard work and of course, we all had a go on the boat 😂

Quarry Bank Mill, Styal - Today we went back in time to discover what life was like for an apprentice child. We explored the 'Apprentice House' and the 'Mill'- the children were brilliant! Well done everyone!

Sports Day- A great morning and even the sun came out! Well done to all the children - you were all fantastic!

Fractions Party - Everything we ate and drank was either a half or quarter.

Pentecost Party - Today we discussed how it feels to to receive good news just like the friends of Jesus did when they received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. We then had a disco and yummy cake to celebrate - Happy Birthday to Our Church.

Pentecost - Today we added some science fun to our Pentecost celebrations by making fantastic gyrocopters! We wrote in different languages and coloured in the top with flames. The children loved our new hymn too...Holy Spirit Fill Me up!

L.S. Lowry Art Workshop, what a fantastic day. We had a wonderful day learning about L.S Lowry and his style of work whilst creating our own masterpieces. 🎨

Making Equal Groups - Great problem solving in Maths this week, lots of fantastic discussion and reasoning. 🌟

Mad Hatters Tea Party - Thank you so much for supporting our class fundraiser for CAFOD 💛

Palm Sunday - We have been re-enacting Palm Sunday, we then wrote some questions for the donkey that rode Jesus into Jerusalem. We are looking forward to hot seating the donkey tomorrow.

RE - We have been learning about the story of The Good Samaritan. Great acting Year One 🌟

Maths Fun... Great fun outside practising counting in 2s and 5s.

Phonics fun. In teams we had to sort the words into Obb or Bob words / real or nonsense words. It was lots of fun 😃

History - Early Transport. This week we made our own Viking longboat, we really enjoyed finding out about the Vikings, ask your child what facts they can remember 🤔😊🌟

This week we have started our new topic ‘The Gruffalo.’ We have had great fun, we have done hot seating, a Gruffalo hunt, lots of drama and created our own story map to help us learn the text. These activities will help us in our writing next week 🌟👏🏻😊✏️

Games - lots of fun, teamwork and laughter in our PE lesson today, crab football was a great 💪🏼⚽️😃

In RE this term, our theme is ‘Following Jesus.’ We have been hearing how Jesus chose some of the first disciples and each shared how we will follow Jesus during Lent. We sang together the hymn that we have been learning, ‘Follow Me.’ 😊

World Book Day 2019 - Year 1 had a great time today. We shared our books with Year 2 and Reception. As part of this year’s theme, we made dream catchers.

Pancake Day - On Tuesday we read and followed a recipe to make pancakes. We then wrote our own instructions using great bossy words and even some fantastic adverbs. 🌟👏🏻

Role Play- The children voted for a hair salon / barbers for our role play area this week. The area has never been so busy, they are so excited to get into roles.

Spring 2 Curriculum Map

D&T Week - We have been exploring moving pictures this week using various mechanisms; sliders, levers, pivots and wheels.

On Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day 2019. We read a story together about Smartie the Penguin and how we too can keep safe whilst online. We hope you enjoy our video 😊

Indian Food Tasting

India - Bollywood Dancing. This afternoon, we took part in a Bollywood dance workshop. It was so much fun!!!! We performed our dance to parents afterwards... We hope you enjoyed it 😊

Presentation of the Lord - Candlemas. We acted out the story of the Presentation of the Lord, Simeon was a very devout man and was always found praying in the Temple. When he met Mary and Joseph with baby Jesus he knew straightaway that Jesus was the light of the world.

Fun in the Snow ❄️ ⛄️❄️⛄️ We all had great fun in the snow this morning! We struggled to get lots of pictures though as we were very busy pulling the sledge!! We had a very cuddly hot water bottle to warm any cold hands 😊⛄️

Linked Provision Challenges. Each morning, when the children come into class, they choose a challenge to get their brains thinking, creative ideas flowing and fingers moving. It starts our day off the right way 🌟😊🌟

Instructions - Talk For Writing. This week we wrote and drew a text map to help us write instructions later in the week. We then came up with actions to help us remember.... We are working so hard 👏🏻👏🏻🌟

Geography UK 🇬🇧🌍 We had lots of fun with Gerry the Giraffe locating all the places we had visited in the UK. Keep sending in any pictures if you visit anymore places in the UK. We love to find them on our map.
