What effect does temperature have on different materials?

  • First compare and group materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases.

  • Investigate how different foods change state.
What happens to an ice cube as it begins to warm up?
What happens to chocolate if you put it in a heat conductive container in cold, warm and hot water?

  • Explore the effect of temperature on other substances  such as butter or cream (you could make food such as chocolate crispy cakes and ice-cream for a party)

  • You could observe and record evaporation over a period of time, for example, a puddle in the playground or washing on a line, and investigate the effect of temperature on washing drying or snowmen melting

You can present your findings in the form of a power-point presentation, notes with pictures and diagrams, a verbal presentation or any other way you can think of!
