Maths
Please remember there is lots of maths around, the children could go on a shape hunt, looking both 2D and 3D shapes. Baking is a great way for the children to learn about measure, in terms of weighing the ingredients and following instructions for English. Learning how to tell the time, in hourly, half-hourly, 15 minute and 5 minute intervals. Working with money, the value of the coins and notes and different ways to make different amounts of money, real-life problems involving money.
Can the children list ten items from the kitchen and bathroom cupboards, list them and write their weights and then order them from smallest to largest. Can they repeat the activity with bottles and volumes?
Please feel free to continue with the times-tables tests with the children, they can write these in the back of their times-tables books. Please limit this to once a week and if they find the times-table difficult then they stay on that particular one until they are secure with it. By the end of year 2 they should be able to recall 2, 3, 5 and 10 times-tables.
