Science in Action
Year 2 Science
In our recent science lessons, the children have been learning all about the life cycles of animals. From eggs to adults, they explored how different creatures grow and change. Each child created their very own life cycle wheel to show what they learned - and we had some fantastic class discussions along the way! Take a look at their amazing work below!
Science
The children worked in small groups to sort what animals needed to survive. The children sorted them into very important, quite important and not important.
Gardening
The Nursery children worked hard on our allotment, clearing away the old plants to make space for new growth. They enjoyed getting their hands dirty as they prepared the soil and carefully planted garlic bulbs, learning about how they’ll grow over the coming months. We can’t wait to see the garlic sprouting in spring!
Reindeer heads
The Nursery children made some reindeer heads using compost and cress seeds. We added eyes and a red nose to the pot and used sticks for the antlers. The children will take them home to look after over Christmas and see if their “hair” begins to grow.
π± Year 2 Scientists at Work! πΏ
Our young gardeners have planted sweet pea seeds to explore what plants need to grow. They’re excited to observe how water, sunlight, and warmth help their seeds germinate and thrive. πΈβ¨
For British Science Week, Year 3 investigated magnetic coins. They discovered that coins made before 1992 were not magnetic and coins made after are! They used their knowledge of metals and magnets to come up with suggestions as to why and then researched on the Royal Mint website.
Year 1 enjoyed their observations of different materials. They ranked them from opaque to transparent.
