Spring Term

In computing this week we have looked at designing our rockets on Sketchpad, using ours mouse skills. Lots of praise given to the children for their resilience as mouse skills can be tricky. Well done class 1!

Today in English we ordered instructions on how to make a jam sandwich, we then followed the instructions to make our own sandwich. Tomorrow we will be using our knowledge to write our instructions.

Science Week! Should we flush it away? Year 1 have been investigating what we can flush down the toilet. We put different materials into a bottle of water, shook it and observed what happened to them.

In PE we looked at ways of moving, linked to animals, we then held a balance and repeated this to make a sequence. We then showed our sequence to each other.

In English we are learning about instructions. We identified the imperative verbs and time conjunctions. The children loved carrying out the instructions to plant their own seeds.

Computing lessons learning how to open a word document and record a list of materials needed to make a rocket.

We have started to look at instruction writing in our English lessons. We sorted statements and instructions. We then discussed how instructions use imperative verbs, bossy words, to tell us what to do.

We finished our Computing topic by using our mouse skills to create self portraits.

PE lessons in the sun, working on our methods of moving and balancing.

Celebrating World Book Day, sharing our books with our friends.

Having fun with fine motor activities.

In Art we have looked at colour mixing and how we can mix colours to make different shades of the same colour.

Computing - we continued to develop our mouse skills, using the stamp tools, changing colours and effects within the software, Sketchpad.

Continuous provision at break time, children can come and go as they like.

In Geography we have been looking at our local area. We sorted places into near and far to gain an understand of distance and what we mean by local.

In Art we have continued to explore mixing colours. We looked at ‘Numbers in Color’ by Jasper Johns and then created our own piece of art..
