Mastering Number

Maths Curriculum

We are proud to be part of the NCETM Turing North West Hub, working closely with schools across the region to strengthen mathematical understanding. This year, we have introduced the Mastering Number Programme to further develop children’s fluency and confidence.

Research from the NCETM shows that the programme has a significant impact on children’s mathematical development, particularly in building secure number sense and confidence when working with numbers. Strong foundations in number are essential for success in all areas of mathematics, which is one of the key reasons we have chosen to introduce this programme across our school.

  • In Key Stage 1, the programme focusses on deepening number knowledge and number sense.

  • In Key Stage 2, it helps children build secure times table knowledge to support later mathematical learning.

Classes 1–5 are currently taking part in the programme.

Please see the overviews below to find out more about what the children are learning and how the programme supports their mathematical progress.

Parents can also support at home by encouraging children to practise number facts in the early years and times tables in the later years, helping to reinforce the strong foundations built in school.
