Lenten Prayer Trail
Lenten Prayer Trail
Mass to Celebrate the Trafford Prayer Trail
This Lent, we joined with all the Catholic schools across Trafford to take part in a special Prayer Trail. As part of this shared journey of faith, each school visited another to participate in a Liturgical Prayer session, creating opportunities for reflection, prayer and community during the Lenten season.
The Prayer Trail provided the children with a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of prayer and strengthen their connection with the wider Catholic community.
We concluded this special journey in the season of Easter by coming together to celebrate Mass at St Vincent’s Church, giving thanks for the friendships made, the faith shared, and the spiritual growth experienced along the way.
We were delighted to welcome St Hugh’s as part of our Lenten Prayer Trail.
Today, we gathered together in prayer and reflection to think about Mary at the foot of the cross, asking ourselves:
How can we be like Mary—full of love, strength, and faith?
We listened to the Gospel reading from John 19:25–27, reflecting on this powerful moment when Mary stood beside Jesus during his suffering. Reflection (led by Year 6)
“Mary was very sad, but she stayed with Jesus. She was brave. She trusted God. She loved her son until the very end.”
“Jesus gave Mary to us as our mother. Mary cares for us. We can turn to her.”
“Today, we ask: How can we be like Mary? Can we be loving? Can we be strong? Can we trust God?”
We reflected on the many emotions Mary must have felt. She was heartbroken, watching her son suffer, yet she remained strong and faithful. She did not turn away—she stayed close to Jesus until the very end.
Mary trusted God, even without fully understanding what was happening. In the Gospel, when Jesus says, “Behold your mother,” he is:
- Ensuring Mary is not alone
- Giving her as a mother to all people
- Showing that love continues, even in the hardest moments
This reminds us what true love and faith look like. Even in suffering, Jesus thinks of others, and Mary remains loving and faithful.
For Christians today, Mary is a mother to us all. We can:
- Talk to her in prayer
- Ask for her help and comfort
- Follow her example—being loving, strong, and trusting in God
A Special Moment
The children shared a beautiful performance, helping us to reflect more deeply on this important moment.
Each child was then given a small figure of Jesus, with this message:
“Just like Mary held Jesus in her heart, we can hold Jesus close to us every day.”
We hold Jesus close when we:
- Show kindness to others
- Help someone who is sad
- Forgive others
- Make good choices
- Take time to pray
“Like Mary, we will keep Jesus close to us—in our hearts, in our words, and in our actions.”
Final Words
“Take your little Jesus with you today. Let it remind you that you are never alone—and that you can be like Mary, loving and faithful every day.”
