Autumn
Christmas Fun
The children have had a wonderfully fun final week of term, filled with lots of laughter and memorable moments. We enjoyed baking gingerbread men – although Miss Latus accidentally burnt them, which caused plenty of giggles! The children also made the most of the rainy weather by jumping in puddles and having great fun outdoors. To finish the week, we got into the festive spirit by trimming Father Christmas’s beard. It has been a joyful end to the term and a lovely way to celebrate all our hard work. 🎄😊
Kitchen Disco
We had a fantastic time exploring exciting activities inspired by Kitchen Disco by Clare Foges. The children loved creating colourful repeating patterns using fruit printing, experimenting with shapes and colours. We also enjoyed making our own healthy and fruity flapjacks, giving everyone a chance to mix ingredients and taste a delicious, wholesome treat. To top it all off, our lemon tea water play was a big hit – full of sensory fun and imaginative play!
We love working with our Year 6 prefects
We feel very lucky in Nursery to have some wonderful Year 6 prefects who come over to work with the children each week. The children love spending time with them—playing games, sharing stories, and enjoying the special attention of their older role models. Their visits help to build confidence, encourage positive relationships across the school and create a lovely sense of community. We are so grateful for the kindness and enthusiasm our prefects bring to Nursery.
Humpty Dumpty
We have been busy in Nursery building special walls for Humpty Dumpty to sit on. After exploring the rhyme together, the children talked about how all the King’s horses and all the King’s men might have been feeling when they couldn’t fix poor Humpty Dumpty, sharing lots of thoughtful ideas. The children then discussed how tall the wall should be and explored the best ways to place the blocks so that Humpty wouldn’t fall off. They carefully tested out their constructions, making adjustments and improvements along the way. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to work together, solve problems and use their imaginations through play.
Two Little Dickie Birds
Over the past two days, Nursery has had lots of fun celebrating World Nursery Rhyme Week with the rhyme Two Little Dickie Birds. We’ve explored all things bird-related- collecting twigs for our crafts, searching for birds’ nests, making our own bird feeder seed balls and even creating hungry chicks to feed “worms” to! Have a look at the pictures below to see all of the fun.
Shapes all around us
We have been busy investigating 2D shapes. We explored a range of shapes together and talked about how many sides and corners each one has. We enjoyed counting, sorting and comparing shapes and began to use mathematical language such as “straight sides,” “curved edges” and “corners.” The children had great fun using different shapes to make their own shape rockets, carefully choosing circles, squares, triangles and rectangles to build their designs.
We enjoyed an exciting shape walk around our school where we explored the grounds and looked carefully to spot different shapes in our environment. From circles and squares to triangles and rectangles, the children were enthusiastic detectives, proudly identifying the shapes they discovered. We met some very special people on our shape hunt too.
Getting ready for bonfire night
Gardening
The children worked hard on our allotment, clearing away the old plants to make space for new growth. They enjoyed getting their hands dirty as they prepared the soil and carefully planted garlic bulbs, learning about how they’ll grow over the coming months. We can’t wait to see the garlic sprouting in spring!
Dough Disco and Squiggle
Spanish time with Mr López
We are loving our Spanish time each week with Mr López, as the children learn about what life is like in Spain and begin to use some simple Spanish words. The sessions are full of fun songs, games, and activities that help the children develop an interest in language and culture. It’s wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they greet each other in Spanish and share what they have been learning with pride!
Singing in Nursery
The children enjoy bringing their favourite nursery rhymes to life through singing and performing on stage. It’s always wonderful to see their confidence grow as they share their songs and actions — and invite their friends to join in the fun!
Music time
Today the children enjoyed a fun music session! They practised playing their instruments together, learning how to start and stop at the same time. We also explored playing our instruments loudly and quietly. The children had a wonderful time making music and developing their listening skills.
Squiggle while you wiggle
Squiggle While You Wiggle combines music, movement and mark-making to help us get ready for writing. By using our whole bodies to make big movements, then transferring these to smaller marks on paper, we strengthen the muscles we need for pencil control. It also develops our coordination, concentration, and confidence – and we have great fun while learning!
Parachute games and rhymes
Using the parachute helps us learn to work together, listen carefully, and follow instructions. It builds our physical skills like coordination and strength, while also encouraging teamwork, turn-taking, and lots of laughter!
We love dough disco in Nursery
Dough Disco is a fun activity where we use playdough while moving our fingers to music. It helps to strengthen the small muscles in our hands and fingers, which are really important for early writing skills, cutting, dressing ourselves, and other everyday tasks. It also supports coordination, focus, and creativity – all while we are having lots of fun!
Another super week in Nursery
European Day of Languages
We had a lovely day in Nursery celebrating European Day of Languages. We chatted about what language some of our friends speak at home and said hello in Arabic, Polish and Italian. We made crowns with flags on and enjoyed listening to some videos in different languages. It was a fun way to learn about the many languages spoken around the world!
Exploring God's wonderful world.
This week, our nursery children went on a special walk to the school field to explore God’s wonderful world. As they walked through the grass and trees, they collected a variety of beautiful leaves, each one a reminder of God's amazing creation. The children were full of joy as they discovered different colours, shapes, and textures and brought them back to the classroom. We are now using these natural treasures to create self-portraits, celebrating the uniqueness of each child and the beauty of the world God has made.
What an amazing first week in Nursery!
The children have made a fantastic start to their time in Nursery. They’ve enjoyed exploring their new learning environments, both indoors and outdoors and have been busy getting to know one another. It’s been lovely to see new friendships forming and the children settling in with such enthusiasm and curiosity.
