Autumn
Christmas Party 2025!
Science
Y5 explored school looking for materials that were transparent, translucent or opaque.
D.T.
After a fabulous half-term of team work, Year 5 finished working together to make their bridge. All that was left was to try it out.
Forest School
Today was our final Forest School session. We’re sad it’s come to an end, but we’ve loved everything we learnt along the way. We finished by celebrating with toasted marshmallows and a fun bug hunt!
D.T.
As well as building a class bridge together, we worked in small groups to create our own bridges using spaghetti. We discussed different ways to make our structures stronger and more sturdy, exploring how shape, support, and teamwork could help our bridges hold more weight.
Christmas Fair
HELP! We're trapped in a snow globe. Look at what we made to sell at the Christmas Fair.
Maths
Today in Year 5, we explored multiplication in a hands-on and highly visual way using Cuisenaire rods. The children used the coloured rods to build repeated groups, compare lengths and identify patterns, helping them to understand multiplication as more than just a written method. They represented multiplication facts using rods, then used the same models to find related division facts and factor pairs. Many children challenged themselves further by representing larger calculations using rods as tens or hundreds, discovering how multiplication links to place value. This practical approach supported all learners in seeing the structure of multiplication and deepening their reasoning skills.
Forest School
We learnt some new skills today.
Science
At school this week, our Year 5 pupils investigated the properties of different materials, focusing on their hardness. The children tested how easily each material could be scratched and discovered that some are much harder than others. They then explored why certain materials are chosen for specific jobs, such as using metal for tools or stone for buildings. This hands-on investigation helped them understand how the properties of materials influence the way we use them in everyday life.
Science
We wanted to get an update on how our spider plants were growing, and the potatoes that we kept. Here is what they look like now...
D.T.
Our bridge is coming along nicely!
Spanish
We have been learning to count in Spanish.
Computing
We have been exploring Scratch and making music.
Music
We played a piece of blues music and drew what came to our mind as we listened.
D.T.
We continued our topic by working with Miss Lynch to create a bridge. We had to measure very carefully.
Forest School
We loved being outside for our lesson. We were challenged to work in a team to create the largest free-standing tower.
Spanish
We took part in a video call with our Spanish friends. We are really looking forward to meeting them soon.
D.T. - Making Bridges
We explored the shapes used when making bridges and investigated which shape would be the strongest.
History
As part of this half-term's topic of Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, Year 5 visited Tatton Park where we were greeted by Harold Bloodaxe who put us through our paces with beginners Viking training. We also helped to thresh the wheat and grind it into flour and made some colourful braids to trade with the Vikings.
Art
We have been exploring street art this half-term, in particular Keith Haring, who took his inspiration from his experiences of 1980s New York.
World Mental Health Day
Today we talked about how God made us all unique and blessed us with special gifts and talents. We were inspired to create a piece of art to share what our gifts and talents are and what makes us happy.
P.E. - Fitness
P.S.H.E
We have been learning about friendships and the ups and downs that can happen within them. In groups, we discussed different issues someone might face in a friendship and came up with advice on how those problems could be solved.
P.E.
When we run, we try hard to run at a sensible pace. We have worked really hard to find a pace that we can keep up for the whole run.
Science
We have been looking at the different ways plants reproduce. Today we took a cutting from a spider plant and will observe how it grows. We also decided that we would like to see what happens to a potato if we kept it in a dark spot.
English
To help us develop our ideas, we talked to each other about events in our life. We were able to ask lots of questions to find out more information from those in our group.
Welcome to Year 5
