Friday 3rd July Celebration of the Word - Matthew 11:25–30
Our class took part in a thoughtful Celebration of the Word based on Matthew 11:25–30. During our time of prayer and reflection, the children listened carefully to Jesus’ message and thought about how His words can guide the way we live each day.
Jesus wants us to come to Him when we feel worried, tired or upset. He teaches us to live with kindness, humility, love and trust in God. When we follow Jesus’ way, He helps us carry the difficult things in our lives and gives us peace.
This links well to our school values because the passage reminds children to be gentle, kind, forgiving, respectful and supportive of one another. The children then chose a rule that they felt was especially important to them and explained how we can follow Jesus by showing kindness, respect, forgiveness and love to others.
Celebrating Saint Peter and Saint Paul's Feast Day - June 29th
Our class took part in a special Celebration of the Word to remember Saint Peter and Saint Paul, two important followers of Jesus who helped to share the Good News and build the early Church. During our time of prayer and reflection, the children thought about how Peter and Paul showed courage, faith and love as disciples of Jesus.
We reflected on Jesus’ teaching to love one another and considered how we can live this out in our own school community. The children then wrote their own ideas on a picture of a key, thinking about how love, kindness, forgiveness and respect can help us open the door to being true disciples of Jesus.
To finish our Celebration of the Word, the children sang the hymn, “A New Commandment.” This helped us remember that we follow Jesus not only through our words, but through the love and care we show to others each day.
Crowning of Mary
Our class joined the rest of the school for a beautiful celebration in honour of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. During the special Crowning of Mary Mass, the children gathered together in prayer and reflection, showing great respect and reverence throughout this important occasion.
The celebration reminded us of the special place Mary holds in our Catholic faith and gave the children time to think about her love, trust and faithfulness to God. After Mass, the children took part in the lovely tradition of presenting flowers to Mary. The flowers brought in from home helped to create a colourful and meaningful offering, showing our love and devotion to her.
It was a very special way for our school community to celebrate Mary during the month of May and to come together in faith, prayer and thanksgiving.
Hot-Seating Saul: Exploring Conversion and Faith
The children explored the story of Saul’s conversion through drama and hot-seating activities. Working in groups, they acted out an interview with Saul, taking on different roles and asking thoughtful questions about his actions, beliefs and life-changing encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus.
The children showed excellent understanding as they challenged Saul about his past persecution of Christians and considered how his conversion led him to become a committed follower of Christ. Their questions were mature, reflective and, at times, very challenging, showing how carefully they had thought about the story and its meaning.
Everyone participated enthusiastically and respectfully, creating some excellent role-play and demonstrating a deeper understanding of forgiveness, change, faith and the power of God’s call.
Visit from Simon Caplan
We were delighted to welcome our friend, Simon Caplan, into school to help us learn more about Judaism. Simon began by leading a whole school assembly, where he spoke about his faith and shared some important Jewish traditions, including how Jewish people may wear a prayer shawl, called a tallit, during prayer.
After the assembly, Simon visited our class to talk to us in more detail about his beliefs and what it means to live as a Jewish person. The children listened with great interest and asked many thoughtful questions about Jewish worship, celebrations, traditions and daily life.
It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn from someone with lived experience of the Jewish faith. They showed great respect, curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the visit, and came away with a much deeper understanding of Judaism and the importance of respecting the beliefs of others.
St Francis - Nature Walk
Our class joined the rest of the school for a special walk to celebrate St Francis and his deep love for God’s creation. It was a lovely opportunity for the children to spend time outdoors together, noticing the natural beauty in our local area and reflecting on the importance of caring for the world around us.
As we walked, the children enjoyed taking in the peaceful surroundings, spotting wildlife, plants and flowers, and listening to the sounds of nature. The walk encouraged them to slow down, look carefully and appreciate the many small signs of God’s creation that can often be missed in everyday life.
It was also a valuable time for wellbeing, friendship and reflection, as the children shared conversations, enjoyed being active and experienced the calmness of spending time outside together. Following the walk, the children were delighted to relax at the park and enjoy a well-deserved ice lolly before returning to school.
The afternoon was a meaningful way to remember St Francis and to celebrate our responsibility to love, respect and care for God’s wonderful world.
Stations of the Cross
Our class took part in a very special reflection on the Stations of the Cross, beginning with time in church to remember Jesus’ journey to the cross. The children listened carefully and reflected prayerfully on the events of Holy Week, thinking about Jesus’ love, sacrifice and courage.
Back in school, the children continued their reflection by visiting different prayer stations placed around the building. Each station gave them the opportunity to pause, pray and take part in thoughtful activities linked to Jesus’ final journey. These helped the children consider themes such as forgiveness, compassion, kindness, suffering, hope and love.
The children showed great reverence and maturity throughout the experience. It was a meaningful way for them to prepare for Easter and to deepen their understanding of Jesus’ sacrifice and the message of love at the heart of our faith.
Born again in the Holy Spirit
Year 4 Prayer Service – 5th February The Beatitudes
On 5th February, Year 4 led a thoughtful prayer service based on the Beatitudes from Matthew 5:1–12. During this special time of prayer and reflection, the children listened to Jesus’ teaching about how we can live as people of love, peace, kindness and mercy.
The Beatitudes helped us to think carefully about the values Jesus asks us to follow and how we can show these in our everyday lives. The children reflected on what it means to be peacemakers, to show compassion to others and to trust in God even when things are difficult.
All who attended participated with reverence and respect throughout the prayer service, helping to create a calm and meaningful atmosphere. It was a lovely opportunity for the children to reflect on how they can live out Jesus’ words in our school community each day.
Year 4 Prayer Service - 27th January
Year 4 held a prayer service centred on the theme The Dignity of the Human Person. The children participated through prayer and reflection, responded by singing If I Were a Butterfly, and shared their understanding by writing their own ways they show love and respect for others. The service highlighted the importance of valuing every person as unique and loved by God.
Year 4 Prayer Service 15th January
Year 4 led a prayer service focused on the theme Solidarity – We Are One Family in God’s Love. Through prayer and reflection, the students explored how we are called to love and support one another as one family in Christ. The service was inspired by the Bible quote John 13:34, reminding us of Jesus’ command to love one another as He loves us.
Celebration of the Word- Friday 10th October St Francis of Assisi
St Francis' Feast Day is October 4th
St Francis of Assisi loved God deeply and showed that love by caring for every part of creation — people, animals, and the earth itself.
We took a moment of quiet to thank God for our beautiful world and then we sang: All Things Bright and Beautiful
We listened to the Gospel Reading – Matthew 6:25-26
Then we prayed:
Thank you for the wonderful world You have made.
Help us to care for people, animals, and nature as St Francis did.
Amen.
St Francis loved and trusted God completely and saw every creature as part of one big family — brothers and sisters under God.
We can follow his example by showing respect and love for all creation.
Celebration of the Word- Friday 26th September
Celebration of the Word- Friday 19th September
Year 3 joined Year 4 for Celebration of the Word in the hall. We listened to the word of God from St. Luke's Gospel 16:10-13. Jesus is teaching his disciples about being trustworthy. He is teaching us that being faithful in the little things matters. The children were given a bead to hold and told, "This pebble is small, but it matters. What small, good thing can I do this week that matters to God?"
