Computing
We love computing in Year 3! Today we used the laptops to develop our PowerPoint presentation skills. We are working towards creating our own Stone Age PowerPoint by retrieving photographs from the internet and using copy and paste, as well as developing our word processing skills.
We have also learned all about emails. This week we had fun sending emails to the teachers and waiting for their replies.
PSHE
In PSHE, Year 3 have been learning why trust is an important part of healthy relationships. They have also begun to explore how people are different from one another and why it is important to respect and value these differences. We interviewed each other carefully to find our similarities and differences.
PE
In Year 3 gymnastics, the children began by practising a range of different poses and learning how to link them together to create a sequence. They then worked with their friends to create formations, developing balance, coordination and teamwork.
Reading
In reading, we have been enjoying The Last Bear by Michael Morpurgo. The children really engaged with the story and its powerful themes. Using our VIPERS skills, we have explored the text in depth and created our own true and false questions to check understanding and encourage thoughtful discussion about the events and characters in the book.
Art
In art this term, we have been exploring prehistoric cave art inspired by the Stone Age. The children have used materials such as charcoal and natural pigments, experimented with colour mixing, and created large-scale artworks. This creative work has helped to develop their artistic skills while also linking closely to their learning in history.
History
As part of our learning about hunter-gatherers in the Early Stone Age, we made spears at Forest School. We chose a firm stick and carefully used a whittling tool to shape one end into a sharp point.
Year 3 have been learning about the Stone Age, exploring the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic periods. They investigated how people lived by researching landscapes, homes, clothes and tools, using timelines to understand how life changed over time. Children also used technology to support their research and deepen their understanding of early human life.
Forest School
Year 3 have been enjoying Forest School sessions linked to our Stone Age history topic. Through hands-on, outdoor learning, the children explored what life was like for Stone Age hunter-gatherers by practising key survival skills. They learned how early people used natural materials from their environment, including safely creating simple bow and arrow models, and discussed how these tools were used for hunting and protection.
Year 3 had a fantastic first day at Forest School. They really enjoyed building dens and exploring nature on our field. The children worked well together, discovered new things, and had lots of fun outdoors. They are already looking forward to their next Forest School sessions with even more fun to come. πΏπ
