RE
RE- Desert to Garden
In this half-term, as we being Lent and begin to look forward to Easter, our
RE theme is ‘Desert to Garden’. The children will hear and learn about the stories of Jesus in the desert, Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, Death on the Cross and Resurrection. They will learn about Lent as a time when we prepare and get ready for Easter.
This is a time when we reflect on our lives and on how things we do affect the lives of others. It is difficult for young children to realise that we are all capable of hurting others and to know that when we do so we should feel sorry and try to be kind.
They will begin to understand that Jesus forgave those who hurt him and teaches us to forgive people who hurt us.
At home you can help by:
- Encouraging your child to recognise when they have hurt someone. It is particularly difficult for young children to grasp the idea that someone’s feelings can be hurt.
- Giving gentle reminders to say sorry in times of conflict, taking time to talk things over quietly so that your child thinks about what has happened.
- Encouraging your child to give some small gift to a charitable cause and explain to them what the charity does to help people.
- Going to Sunday Mass. Mass at All Saints Church (Saturday evening 5pm or Sunday 9.30am.) At Sunday morning Mass there is also Little Church that the children can go to and listen to the Gospel with their friends. We would love to see you!

I know that Jesus rose, and everyone celebrates.
We read and shared the Gospel passage from John, exploring the wonderful story of the Resurrection of Jesus. The children listened carefully and talked about how amazing it is that Jesus rose again.
We sequenced and discussed the events that happened after Jesus was placed in the tomb, helping us to understand the story more clearly.
We talked about what we believe as Christians, explaining that the Resurrection was part of God’s plan all along. The children reflected on how happy and surprised Jesus’ friends were when He appeared to them alive again.
We shared the good news that death is not the end. If we follow Jesus, we can have life with Him in Heaven. This is the joyful message we celebrate at Easter.
To celebrate this happy news, we enjoyed creating Easter cards for our families.

I know that Jesus died on the cross
Holy Week Prayer Time
After praying the Stations of the Cross and taking part in the prayer trail, we listened carefully to a scripture reading. We listened to the passage from Luke 23:44–46, which tells the story of Jesus’ final moments.
This helped us to reflect on the important events of Holy Week. We spent time thinking quietly about what happened to Jesus and what it means for us.
As part of our reflection, we each offered a prayer pebble to Jesus on the Cross, thanking Him for His great love for us.
We have been learning about the death of Jesus on the Cross, reflecting on its meaning and importance. We listened to the passage from Luke 23:44–46, which tells the story of Jesus’ final moments. As part of our learning, we took part in a school prayer trail and visited church to pray the Stations of the Cross. Through these experiences, we read, shared, and explored the story together.
We reminded the children that Jesus died to save us. Although this was a very sad event, we also spoke about how God had a special plan to bring Jesus back to life, which we will learn more about soon.
We understand that on Good Friday, Jesus was crucified and died on the cross so that we could be with God in Heaven. It was a deeply sorrowful time for Jesus’ friends and His mother. When we remember Good Friday, we feel sad because we love Jesus and are sorry that He suffered. We take time to reflect, say sorry to God for the things we have done wrong, and remember the love Jesus showed through His sacrifice.
We reflected on how sad it was when Jesus died. Even the earth seemed to share in this sorrow—the sun stopped shining, and darkness covered the land.

During our Reception prayer session, we gathered together with joyful hearts, thankful for the love God shows us each day. We reflected on how special it is that God gave us His Son, who cares for and watches over us all.
We talked about how we can give glory to God by telling Him how wonderful He is. Through our prayers, we shared our thoughts and feelings, expressing our love and appreciation.
Each of us brought to mind a special object that we love, and we gave thanks to God for these meaningful gifts in our lives. As a sign of our prayers and gratitude, we gently placed our prayer stones into the Love of God, creating a peaceful and thoughtful moment together.
We gave Glory To God by saying the Glory Be Prayer...
It was a calm and meaningful time, where we felt full of love.
We enjoyed creating our own version of Jerusalem, preparing it to welcome the Son of David. As we worked together, we thought carefully about how the city might have looked and felt on that special day. Afterwards, we used palm leaves to re-enact the moment Jesus entered Jerusalem, recalling how the crowds greeted him with joy and praise. This activity helped us to better understand the significance of the event and brought the story to life in a meaningful and memorable way.
We enjoyed using our Jerusalem small world area to retell the story. Through imaginative play, we recreated the setting and events, which helped us to better understand the story and brought it to life
We dressed up and brought Palm Sunday to life by it with the palms we created.
We dressed up and retold the story of Palm Sunday, using the palms we had carefully made. As we acted out the events, we imagined the crowds welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem, waving their palm branches and shouting with joy. The activity helped us to understand the importance of this moment and made the story feel more real and meaningful.
We sang... We have a King who rides a donkey. We have a King who rides a donkey. We have a King who rides a donkey. And His name is Jesus – Hosaana King of David! Hosanna King of David! Hosanna, King of David – and His name is Jesus.
We are exploring the Scripture reading Luke 19:28–40, which tells the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem as a King. We learned that Jesus had many followers who were very excited to see Him.
Catholics remember this special event on Palm Sunday. We listened to the Word of God-How Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey while crowds of His followers welcomed Him into the city, waving palm branches and shouting “Hosanna!” to celebrate His arrival. We also enjoyed the story “The Donkey That No One Could Ride.”
The children were encouraged to think about how the donkey might have felt during the journey and how he needed to be strong and brave. We talked about how Jesus wants us to turn to Him when we need help.
We also discussed how, although many people welcomed Jesus, there were some who did not like Him and wanted the crowds to stop cheering. This helped us reflect on how we too are invited to welcome Jesus into our lives and worship Him as our King.
The children looked carefully at pictures of the city of Jerusalem and used their creativity to make their own versions of the city.

They also enjoyed making palm leaves to help us remember how the crowds welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem.
Happy Mother's Day
We are extremely proud of our wonderful children for their beautiful performance at our Mother’s Day assembly. Each child lovingly created a portrait of their mummy, accompanied by a heartfelt caption explaining why they love her so much.
It was a truly special moment celebrating the love and appreciation our children have for their mothers. We are grateful to God for our mummies and for all the wonderful women who bless and support our lives.
Our Planting Adventure Begins!- 🌱 Sowing Seeds and Caring for God’s World
Inspired by what they had observed in nature, the children enthusiastically took part in planting a variety of seeds. They carefully planted tomatoes, potatoes and corn on the cob, which were placed in our greenhouse where they will begin to grow before being transferred to our EYFS allotment. Some seeds, such as sweet peas and Nigella, were planted straight into the ground so that they can grow and flourish in their natural environment.
This hands-on experience helped the children to understand how plants grow and develop, and how we can care for living things. As part of our ongoing learning about God’s World, the children are continuing to recognise that the world around us is a special gift from God. Through planting and caring for our seeds, we are building on this learning and helping the children understand how we can look after and respect the wonderful creation God has given us.
I wonder… How will our seeds grow into vegetables and fruit?
“I planted the tomato seeds in the soil! They will be warm there” Danielle
“We are growing tomatoes!” Ruby
“I helped to water the seeds.” Jude
“The seeds will grow in the sunshine.” Ihechi
“God helps the plants grow. We are doing God’s work” Malaya
“I put seeds in the ground.” Aadhya
“ I remember when we had Pumpkin Soup .” Louie
“I can’t wait to see them grow! Last time we grew strawberries and beans” Alyssia
“We need to look after them. We need to water the seeds in the greenhouse” Freddie O
“Let’s put them into the greenhouse to keep warm -Plants need water.” Ruby
“God made seeds to grow.” Anaya
“Our garden will be beautiful! Just like last time” Florence
During our prayer time this week, we enjoyed spending time together in our EYFS Prayer Garden. It was a special moment to pause, reflect, and share quiet time together.
Today we thought about forgiveness. We listened to a short scripture reading from Matthew 18:21–22, where Peter asked Jesus:
“Lord, how many times should I forgive someone who hurts me?
Up to seven times?”
Jesus answered,
“I tell you, not just seven times, but many, many times.”
This reminds us that sometimes we make mistakes or hurt someone’s feelings. Jesus teaches us that when this happens, we should say sorry and forgive one another so that we can make things right and be friends again.
The children sat in sacred silence, reflecting on a time when they might have hurt someone or needed to say sorry. They then gently placed their prayer pebble into the wooden heart box as a sign of letting go and asking for forgiveness.
Lord I am Sorry...
After sharing the story ... Deji and Nnedi and the very large cushion
We reflected on the scripture reading - Matthew 18:21–22
Peter asked Jesus,
“Lord, how many times should I forgive someone who hurts me?
Up to seven times?”
Jesus answered,
“I tell you, not just seven times, but many, many times.”
We know Jesus
“Jesus teaches us to forgive.” " Teaches us how to love. "
Reflection – Learning About Forgiveness
As part of our learning about forgiveness, the children took part in a simple drama activity called . This helped them to understand that we all make mistakes, and that Jesus teaches us to say sorry and to forgive others.
Two children acted out a short, familiar scenario where one child accidentally knocked over another child’s tower of blocks. Through guided narration, the children explored how it might feel when something goes wrong and how we can make things better. The child who caused the accident said, “I’m sorry,” and the other child responded, “I forgive you.” They then showed friendship by rebuilding the tower together.
After watching the role-play, the class talked about how the children in the scene might have felt and how saying sorry and forgiving can help us feel better and stay friends. Several children had the opportunity to take part in the activity themselves.
We linked this learning to our Gospel message, reminding the children that Jesus teaches us to forgive.
To finish, the children joined in a simple action prayer:
Hands on heart – “Jesus, help us love.”
Hands open – “Help us forgive.”
Hands joined with a partner – “Help us be friends.”
This activity supported the children in developing kindness, empathy and an understanding of how to build and restore positive relationships.
First Signs of Spring ...
The children went outside to enjoy a spring nature walk, taking time to explore and appreciate God’s wonderful world. They used magnifying lenses to take a closer look at the world around them. As they explored, they observed many beautiful signs of spring such as buds, flowers, birds, trees, and insects. The children carefully looked at the details in nature and talked about everything they could see, hear, smell, and touch. This helped them to reflect on the beauty of creation and remember the words from Genesis 1:31, when God looked at all He had made and saw that it was very good.
Photographs were taken along the way to capture the beauty they discovered.
Lenten Challenge
As part of their Lenten challenge, the Reception children took part in a wonderful act of service to support the charity CAFOD. The children carefully washed their scooters and bikes before taking part in a sponsored pedal around the playground. Through their enthusiasm and teamwork, they worked hard to raise money to help people in need around the world.
This activity helped the children to live out our Catholic Social Teaching, particularly the mission of Human Dignity. We believe that every person is special because we are all made in the image and likeness of God. Because of this, everyone deserves love, respect and kindness, no matter who they are or where they come from. By raising money for CAFOD, the children showed that they care about others and want to help people who may be struggling.
At All Saints’, we recognise the dignity of others by being respectful, treating people equally, helping others to feel valued and remembering those who are most vulnerable. The children’s Lenten challenge also reminded us of our shared rights and responsibilities. Every person has the right to basic needs such as food, shelter and education, and as children of God we are called to care for one another and help make sure these needs are met.
By taking part in this sponsored pedal, the Reception children showed our school values in action. Together we continue to build a safe, loving community where everyone is respected, supported and able to grow and thrive.
Prayer Time – As we gathered together we prepared our sacred prayer space ...

During our Prayer Time, we gently placed our Prayer Pebble into our heart-shaped wooden box before the Crucifix.
After we reflected quietly, we each gave thanks for our mummy, saying:
“I am grateful for my mummy…”

We listened to the Scripture Reading Luke 10:25-37
The Good Samaritan.
We explored the meaning of the story and linked it to the season of Lent
I Wonder…
Who is your neighbour? Everyone- Anaya People who live next to our house-Jude People we don't know can be our neighbour. It's good to help everyone- Freddie D
We retold the story using our small world story area…
I wonder…
Who was hurt in the story? Did everyone stop to help?
Who helped the man? How do you think the hurt man felt?
How do you think the helper felt?
Thinking About Our Feelings
How would you feel if you were hurt? How would you feel if someone helped you? How would you feel if someone walked past you
We enjoyed exploring the story of the Good Samaritan through drama...
We found a Special Invitation in the classroom

After reading this special Invitation we wondered ...
How can we spend time with Jesus this Lent?
We can pray- Gerry We go to the prayer hall and listen to Mrs Fagan and talk to Jesus- Chilli We can go to the prayer garden-Ruby

We Care for Others in Lent...
After reading this special Invitation we talked about
How can we spend time with Jesus this Lent?
- What could we tell Him about?
Through our Catholic Social Teaching this year, we have been thinking about those less fortunate than ourselves. We have helped our neighbours by supporting the Sale West Hub foodbank and by giving Christmas gifts to Wood Street Mission in Manchester. More recently, we have been thinking about our neighbours in Bangladesh by buying a goat to support a community there. We feel it is very important for the children to develop an awareness and understanding of others.
We have also been talking about using our “helping hands” to support people at home and those who live far away. During the season of Lent, Reception would like to raise more money for CAFOD to continue helping those in need.
Throughout the year, we have been learning about the Gospel Values. One of these values is Kindness. We have been trying hard to show kindness to our friends at school and to our families at home. We have all been looking out for acts of kindness by giving our friends and teachers “I have caught you being kind” tickets when we notice thoughtful and caring actions. These acts of kindness are also recognised and celebrated each day with a special award in our class.
This week in Reception, we have started learning about the season of Lent. We talked about how the colour purple is used during Lent to remind us to be caring, kind, and thoughtful. The children will also see the colour purple in church, which helps them to recognise this special time. We talked about Shrove Tuesday and the children enjoyed sharing their 'Pancake Day' topping news .
We know Ash Wednesday is the day after Shrove Tuesday...
Jesus feels sad when we have done something wrong or have been unkind. Jesus never stops loving us.
On Ash Wednesday, we take time to tell Jesus that we are sorry, and we love him.

Sometimes the priest puts ashes in the shape of a cross on our forehead. This is a sign of how much we love Jesus and are sorry for making him sad.
Our Prayer Session
Together, we dressed our prayer table using a purple cloth and special items to help us focus on prayer and reflection. We also introduced the children to the idea that Lent lasts for 40 days.
We listened to the Gospel reading from Luke 4:1–13, the story of Jesus in the desert. In this scripture, Jesus takes time to pray and prepare for His important mission. We looked at pictures of the desert and reflected on what it might have been like for Him there – the heat, the silence, and the stillness. The children were invited to think about how Jesus may have felt during His time in the desert and how that quiet space helped Him grow stronger and closer to God.

"Jesus could go into a cave " Freddie O
"He could make a bed in the sand " Danielle
" He could sleep behind a rock" Gerry
"Jesus could make a bed using the rocks and stones" Ruby
"Jesus could use the sand like Mary his Mummy used straw when he was in the stable " Niamh
"Yes I think Jesus was sad and wanted to go home" Florence
"Jesus might be sad and cry for all his family and friends" Jude "Sad because he was on his own" Harlie
"Happy because he was Praying to his Father" Anaiya
We reflected upon special places that we might go to feel calm and quiet. We shared some of your own places that we might go to..
"My bedroom" Malaya "Church" Freddie O " Our Prayer Garden" Eleanor
"The assembly hall" Ihechi "Outside in the Prayer Garden" Alyssia
We invited the children to consider that we can sometimes feel closer to Jesus and also peaceful when we are in nature away from toys and screens and noise – just like Jesus did in the desert.
Prayer Pebble
Each child has received their own prayer pebble with their name on it. They will use their pebble during prayer times throughout Lent to help them feel calm, focused, and connected.
As part of our Lenten journey, the children will think each week about something they are grateful for. This week, our focus was on being grateful for friends. The children enjoyed sharing the special friends in their lives and reflecting on why they are thankful for them.
We are so happy that God gave us His son – who takes care of us all. We can tell God how wonderful we think He is by giving Glory to God to him. This means telling Him, how wonderful He is when we talk to Him in our prayers.
We created our promises for Lent
Branch 3- Galilee to Jerusalem
In this branch, our class will focus on the life and teachings of Jesus, discovering how He showed God’s love to everyone and cared for all people, especially the poor and vulnerable. We will start by learning about the visit of the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12), who brought gifts to the newborn Jesus, recognising Him as God's Son, the Saviour of the world. Jesus came for everyone, and His birth is celebrated at Christmas as the moment God entered the world in love. We will also learn about how Jesus welcomed children and showed compassion for all people, teaching us that we, too, are called to show love and care to others in our words and actions, just as Jesus did (Mark 10:13-16). We will reflect on the miracle of the feeding of the 5000 (John 6:1-14), where Jesus took care of the hungry, reminding us that Jesus wants us to help those in need. As we explore these stories, we will also learn about the Church’s prayer, the "Glory Be," which is prayed in response to the coming of Jesus, praising God's greatness and love for all.
At home you can help your child by:
• Reminding your child that the gifts received at Christmas are a sign of your love. By saying thank you for those gifts we are also showing love.
• Sharing Bible stories with them. If you do not already have a children’s Bible you might like to think about buying one of the many beautifully illustrated versions that are available.
• Visiting the church when it is quiet and lighting a candle and saying a prayer.
• Sharing bedtime prayers with your child and remembering family and friends who need our prayers.
• It is good to continue to visit the crib in the Church in the weeks that it remains there after Christmas.
Our theme this half term concentrates on building the knowledge that God loves everyone.
God is love.

We have enjoyed listening to many stories about Jesus helping others. We know that we are called to follow His example by helping those in need, especially the poor, showing kindness, generosity and love in our daily lives.
Our First Class Mass
❤️Theme - Love ❤️
We truly enjoyed celebrating our first Class Mass with our Year 6 buddies. The theme of the Mass was love, which connects beautifully to the Catholic Social Teaching principle of The Common Good - Taking Part in Our Communities. Through praying, singing, and participating together, we learned how important it is to care for one another and to contribute positively to our school community.
As we continue getting to know Jesus as a loving friend, we have been listening to Bible stories about Him blessing the little children. These stories remind us that Jesus welcomes everyone with kindness and love, and that we are called to show that same love to others.
🥖Feeding of the 5000🐟
We talked about our learning so far – The Magi visiting baby Jesus, Jesus growing as a little boy, Jesus blessing the children…
We used our Golden Box to share the miracle of the Feeding of the 5,000. Together, we talked about the word miracle and what it means. We know that miracles are signs of God’s love and power.
The children shared their own ideas about miracles we see every day. Louie said God’s beautiful world is a miracle. Harlie noticed the snow falling gently to the ground. Chile spoke about the plants and flowers growing. Niamh reminded us that we are gifts too. Eleanor shared that pumpkins growing in our pumpkin patch are a miracle.
We discussed how sometimes we cannot fully explain why a miracle does or does not happen, yet we can still choose to believe with faith. We know that God is behind all the miracles we encounter. We especially enjoyed listening to the story The Boy Who Shared His Sandwich, which helped us understand how even small acts of sharing can become something wonderful in God’s hands.
In a large group, and later in smaller groups, we explored a painting of the Feeding of the 5,000. The children were encouraged to talk and make links to the Bible story through thoughtful questions:
-
What do you see in the painting?
-
Which part do you like the most?
-
Close your eyes and imagine you are someone in the painting.
-
What are you doing — watching, talking, or helping?
Through these discussions, we deepened our understanding of the miracle and reflected on how Jesus cared for the crowd by providing food when they were hungry.
❤️ What is Love ❤️
We have been talking about love and what it truly means. Niamh shared a beautiful thought: “Love is a word and an action. We can show love in different ways by sharing, caring and helping our friends.” Together, we explored how love is not just something we say, but something we do.
We wondered, How does it feel to be loved?
Freddie said it feels warm.
Caden said it feels happy.
Florence said it feels excited.
During our prayer time, we listened to God’s Word from the Bible, including Saint Paul’s letter to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 13). Paul reminds us that without love, we are like a clanging cymbal — just noise! We talked about how love gives meaning to our actions and helps us to act with kindness and care.
We reflected on Paul’s teaching that love is patient and kind, and that it is not jealous or boastful. We learned that when we give and share, we should do so freely and with a loving heart.
Over the past few weeks, we have listened to many stories about how Jesus helped others. These stories show us how Jesus lived out love in action — by healing, welcoming, feeding and forgiving.
All of our learning links beautifully with our school mission statement:
“Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34).
Jesus calls us to love others in the same generous and selfless way that He loves us. We are learning that this means showing kindness, including everyone, helping those in need and speaking gentle words.
We have been thinking carefully about how we can show our family and friends that we love them. We know that love is shown through both actions and words.
We have enjoyed singing “Magic Penny” and “Lord, You Have My Heart”, reminding us that love grows when we share it.
To put our learning into action, we created Prayer Love Cards to show others how to love. We made beautiful hearts to give glory to God for all He has given us, and we threaded hearts for our loved ones to say thank you for their love and care.
Through our prayers, songs and actions, we are living out our mission to love one another just as Jesus loves us.
Jesus loved children. We listened to a special story from the Holy Bible about how Jesus welcomes and blesses the little children.
Mark 10:13-16
We used our prayer table too retell the story. We discussed the story ...
Jesus Blesses the Little Children, Mark 10:13-16
We acted out the Gospel story Jesus Blesses the Little Children
This is a very special story that shows how Jesus warmly welcomed the children and blessed them. Even when others tried to turn them away, Jesus made it clear that the children were important and that they belonged with Him.
We learned that Jesus wanted the little children to come to Him, and He still invites all children to come close to Him today. He loves children deeply, listens to them, and wants to talk with them.
Through our drama and discussion, we were reminded that we are precious in Jesus’ eyes and that we are always welcome in His loving presence.
We know when Jesus grew up into a man, he told everyone all about God. We invited the children to think about who Jesus wants to come to Him? – Is anyone not welcome to see Jesus?
We know that everyone is welcome to come to Jesus, especially children. Each one of us is very special to Him and He lovingly invites us to come closer to Him.
We began to wonder: How can we come to Jesus? How can we talk to Him? Where are the special places where we can feel close to Him?
We know that talking to Jesus is called prayer, we can pray anytime and anywhere. We explored some special ways that help us speak to our friend Jesus. We went on a walk around our school to discover different places where we could quietly enjoy time in prayer. Along the way, we also noticed meaningful objects that remind us of Jesus and help us feel close to Him.
We are learning the Glory Be Prayer... We give thanks to God for all the wonderful things he has given us.

We have been thinking carefully about the questions above !
Wow, Reception ... You know so much about Jesus .
Jesus is the Son of God - Niamh Jesus is God's only Son- Caden Jesus was born in a stable - Danielle Mary is his Mummy and Joseph is His Daddy- Alyssia
Jesus is the the light of the world, he wants us to shine our light too- Jude
We know that many of Jesus’s friends were fishermen. We talked about the role of a fisherman and looked at the map of the area where Jesus lived
We read from the Holy Bible – Jesus Calls the Disciples Luke 5:10-11
An amazing thing happened! When they started pulling the nets up, there were so many fish that the nets began to break. As they pulled the fish into the boat, there were so many fish that the boat was beginning to sink. When Peter and his fellow fishermen saw this, they were astonished and even a bit frightened.
Jesus said, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will fish for people." (Luke 5:10-11)
The Bible story tells us that they pulled their boats up onto the shore, left everything, and followed Jesus. From that day on, Peter and his friends fished for people and brought many into God's kingdom.
The children were amazed when listening to this Bible reading- Wow, Jesus made all the fish appear- Gerry
We are learning the hymn Follow Me
We have been discussing friends and how to be a good friend. We are all trying hard to be better friends…
I know that Jesus welcomes everyone.
We enjoyed learning the song ‘When Jesus Was a Little Boy’. We watched the video and discussed …
• What did Jesus do as a little boy?
• Where did he go?
• In what ways was he just like you?
• What games do you think he played?
We have enjoyed learning all about the Holy Family
Following on from our night sky investigations, the children have thoroughly enjoyed creating their own telescopes, just like the Three Kings. Through this activity, they have been encouraged to talk about what they might see in the night sky, share ideas, ask questions and explain their thinking. This has helped to develop their oracy skills by building confidence in speaking, listening to others, and using new vocabulary related to space and the story of the Three Kings.
We have been inspired by the story of the Three Kings and their journey to find the baby Jesus, guided by the stars in the night sky. This has led us to explore how the stars can form patterns and constellations.
The children have been investigating different star patterns and learning about constellations, before creating their own beautiful and imaginative constellations. This has been a wonderful opportunity to combine storytelling, curiosity about the world and creative expression.
We created beautiful crowns in honour of the Magi and God for giving us His only Son.
We celebrated the feast of the Epiphany as a whole school. We dressed up as kings, enjoyed attending Mass and visiting the All Saints Church crib
We listened to a number of stories about the Magi visiting Jesus. The children explored the journey the Wise Men took using small world. We talked about the long journey and created a tuff tray with different types of terrain. We thought carefully about the scripture story. We used pictures to retell the story of the Magi
The children were very intrigued to find out about the Kings journey …On the way to find baby Jesus they met King Herod in his palace and asked him to tell them where baby Jesus was. King Herod was keen to meet baby Jesus too. God told them in a dream that King Herod was a bad man and wanted to hurt baby Jesus. They all had the same dream so the Wise Men did not go back and went home the other way. The children were very shocked that King Herod tried to trick the Magi
Celebrate
When the Wise Men visited the baby Jesus, they were very happy that God had given us the baby Jesus. We are also so happy that God gave us His Son. We can tell God how wonderful we think He is by giving glory to Him. This means telling Him how wonderful He is when we talk to Him in our prayers… We are learning the Glory Be prayer

The Wise Men followed a star and came to visit baby Jesus.
We listened to the Gospel story from St Matthew (Matthew 2:1-12). … God wanted everyone to know about the birth of baby Jesus, God’s son. There were no phones or televisions or the internet in the world when Jesus lived. To let people who lived far away know that Jesus had been born, God sent a special star.

Well done children for answering these questions brilliantly … We had so much fun retelling the Christmas story through songs and Bible quotes.
Branch 2 – Prophecy and Promise
Autumn 2 begins in November, the month when we remember those who have died, and then progress on to Advent; this begins on the Sunday after the feast of Christ the King and lasts until the Christmas holidays.
In this branch, children will explore the beautiful story of the prophecy and promise of Jesus' birth. The angel Gabriel told Mary she would have a son named Jesus (Luke 1:26-31, 38). Jesus was born in Bethlehem, laid in a humble manger (Luke 2:4-7), and visited by shepherds who were guided by angels to come and see him (Luke 2:8-20). This includes key moments like the Annunciation, the Nativity, and the visit of the shepherds.
Children will also learn about Advent traditions, including the Advent wreath and the nativity crib, as well as how different cultures around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus. Through these traditions, we reflect on the meaning of Advent: preparing our hearts, helping others, and showing our love to God.
As we move towards Advent and Christmas, we will begin to develop an awareness of our Church family.
You can help at home by:
- Attending our All Saints’ Sunday Family Mass at 9.30am
- Making a point of greeting friends at Church.
- Talking about what the child sees and hears at Church.
- Having a little advent wreath and lighting another candle each week with a prayer.
- Enjoying the rich symbolism of the seasons – point out the advent wreath, the Christmas tree and the crib.
- Displaying a crib in your home.
- Talking about the real meaning of Christmas
- Praying together as a family before bedtime and remembering to say thank you.

Our Advent Poem
4 3 2 1… Count the weeks till Jesus comes,
Each week we add another light,
Our hope for Jesus growing bright,
We pray, we share, we do our part,
To welcome Jesus to our heart.

I know that Jesus came for the whole world.
As part of the church’s Year of the Jubilee of Hope, Icons of the Visitation, as represented in the stained-glass window in Shrewsbury Cathedral, will travel on pilgrimage around our Diocese.
One of these beautiful Jubilee Icons, depicting the Visitation, when Mary travelled ‘with haste’ to help her cousin Elizabeth, soon to give birth to her first child, was on display in school. Reception spent time looking at the picture. We knew that 'Jesus was our Saviour, 'Mary and Elizabeth's babies were very special and that 'Mary's baby was going to be called Jesus and Elizabeth's would be called John The Baptist.
I know Shepherds visited Jesus in the stable.
We explored the Scripture of Luke 2:8-20
We discussed the idea that God wanted His people to know about the birth of His Son but he didn’t choose the rich or important to tell first. He chose humble shepherds because Jesus had come for everyone – especially those who were poor or not important to the world.
The people of God had waited a long time for God to send them a Saviour. God wanted them to know that His Son had been born. God sent His angels to give the message to simple shepherds to be the very first people to know about the birth of Jesus. Shepherds were very poor and simple people -They were often looked down upon by others. God wanted to show that Jesus had come to earth for all of us and that God thinks that we are all important. The Shepherds hurried to visit Jesus in the stable and praised God for giving us His Son. The shepherds also had a very important job, given to them by the angels, to tell everyone they met about the birth of the new king.
God sent His angels to bring the message of great joy to the Shepherds. The angels praised God by singing Hosannahs.
We can praise God too, for sending His Son to us to save us all.
We can praise God with our singing too. We love singing and praising God in Reception ...
We looked at some images of the angels singing praises to God.

We talked about what we would like to praise God for
‘God, I praise you for my friends’ ‘God, I praise you for my family’ ‘God, I praise you for my dog’
We created beautiful Angels.
I wonder...
I wonder why the angels appeared to the shepherds? God wanted people to know that Jesus came for everyone.
I wonder why the shepherds travelled to visit Jesus in the stable? The Angels told them to go. They hurried to see Jesus, the Son of God and Saviour -King of Kings
I wonder how the shepherds felt when the angels appeared and when they saw Jesus? Very frightened at first, shocked and surprised.
I wonder how I would feel if I was meeting Jesus for the first time? Excited, Happy and really Joyful
I wonder have you ever waited for someone and how did it make you feel? Waiting for my brother Archie to be born
I wonder have you ever had an important job to do? Prayer monitor, The Donkey in the Nativity Play
Jubilee Icons
As part of our Jubilee celebrations, we were delighted to welcome the Jubilee Icons to our school today from Holy Family School. The Icon is travelling around the schools of the Diocese, and we are blessed to host it for a few days before it moves on.
The Icons are photographs of a beautiful stained-glass window in Shrewsbury Cathedral, depicting The Visitation, the second Joyful Mystery of the Rosary. This scene shows Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth to share the joyful news that she is expecting Jesus. The Icon was blessed by Bishop Mark at Easter and is now making its pilgrimage to every school in the Diocese of Shrewsbury.
We welcomed the Icon with a torchlight procession alongside Holy Family School. Two Reception children, dressed as Mary and Elizabeth, greeted the children as they arrived. We then gathered as a whole school for a Celebration of the Word.
During its time with us, each class will have the opportunity to learn more about the image of The Visitation, taken from one of the Margaret Rope windows in the Cathedral, and to spend time in prayer, reflection, and contemplation.
Travelling Bag
The children are loving the opportunity to take home the travelling nativity bag and share it with their families. We are really enjoying listening to the beautiful prayers they are creating at home.
The night you have the crib in your house please: Unpack the box and set up the crib scene. Light the candle, share the Nativity story together. Take a few moments to be silent and reflect on what Christmas means to you.
In the prayer book-Please encourage your child to draw a picture, write about the night the travelling crib was in your home or write a prayer. Please send any pictures (via Tapestry) to school with the crib tomorrow. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Prayer to say when the candle is lit and you have taken time to reflect.
Dear God
Please bless our home and family on this special night as we remember the journey to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Help us to cherish this special time together and to remember the true meaning of Christmas. Amen.
You are invited to say the Our Class Advent Poem together as a family.

4 3 2 1… Count the weeks till Jesus comes,
Each week we add another light,
Our hope for Jesus growing bright,
We pray, we share, we do our part,
To welcome Jesus to our heart.
After, please pack away the crib as it was when it arrived with you, place the candle, purple cloth (the liturgical colour for the Advent season) and prayer book inside the bag with the crib and return to school for the next family to take it home.

Advent Stay and Pray with our Families…
We gathered together to listen to the Word Of God and thought about what we hoped for. We created a class Advent wreath and made an advent crown.
I know Jesus was born in a stable and laid in a manger.

Jesus was born in a stable and Mary wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger. God could have chosen for His son to be born anywhere -the greatest palace -but He didn’t. He chose a simple and humble stable. Jesus was the son of God, the saviour of mankind, the king of kings but God wanted Him to be a king of all people – not a rich and powerful king that people would be afraid to approach. God wants us all to be able to come to baby Jesus in the manger and know that He came for all of us.
We looked at a model of Jesus in the manger.
We thought about what sort of king He will grow up to be. ...
A kind and gentle King- Florence
A King with a big heart- helping people- Louie
A King who thinks of others, kind and sharing- Malaya
Kind- Caden
We created beautiful pictures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in the stable ...
I wonder what the town of Bethlehem looked like…
We listened to the hymn ‘O Little town of Bethlehem’ and look at some paintings of Bethlehem by different artists. We invited the children to consider how this little ordinary town became a very well known and important place for Christians. We created our own Bethlehem by painting, collaging and making one of the buildings to join together to make the town.
We used candles to support the houses so they light up in the dark…
We invited the children to think about what a stable and a manger would have been like to stay in. The children enjoyed exploring building different stables as shelters for Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus.
I know that Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem.
After reading Scripture of Luke 2:4-7 we used Godly play to share and explore the reading. We also enjoyed dressing up and retold the story through drama.
We looked closely at the map and discussed their journey.
We wondered …
how Mary felt on her way to Bethlehem?
what Mary and Joseph may have prayed for?
how I would feel on a long and tiring journey?
what I could do to be brave on a long journey?
We know Mary said Yes to God and He wants us to say ‘Yes’ too.
Through the chime bar, we invited the children to sit in a circle observed some images of Bethlehem and Mary and Joseph travelling. We reflected upon all the challenges and difficulties that Mary and Joseph may have encountered on the journey. We talked about how important prayer and trust in God’s help must have been to them both. We listened to some suggestions of what they may have prayed for on the journey.
We asked the children to think about things that they find difficult sometimes. We invited the children to ‘bring to God’ something that they find difficult – ‘Lord please help me with…….’ e.g being kind, my green words, riding by bike…
We then wondered…
if you have any questions about the journey to Bethlehem?
How can you be brave today?
Bethlehem was not a very large or important town but God chose it to be the birthplace of His Son because He wanted His Son to be for everyone – especially the poor and unimportant people. When Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem, there was nowhere for them to stay because lots of people had come to Bethlehem to register too.
We begin by celebrating Mary’s Yes, to Angel Gabriel. The children will learn that Mary was chosen by God...
Good News…
We enjoy sharing good news in Reception.
Our Tapestry Online Journal is full of good news from our families – Thank you everyone for sharing your Good News!
We received a special letter from God… Asking us to read a special story from the Bible.
We read the scripture passage from Luke 1:19 and used drama to retell the passage.

We sang an Angel came from heaven and listened to the story, ‘The Angel Gabriel comes to see Mary’.
Why do we wear a Poppy?
During our Prayer time we talked about the special ‘poppy’ flower …
After World War I, bright red poppy flowers started growing on the battlefields in France and Belgium where many soldiers had fought. People were amazed to see these beautiful flowers growing in places that had been destroyed by war.
A soldier named John McCrae wrote a poem called “In Flanders Fields” about the poppies, it helped everyone remember the soldiers who had died.
That’s why today, people wear red poppies on Remembrance Day (November 11th) to honour and remember all the brave soldiers who fought for peace.
We listened to the Word of God from the Holy Bible… John 13:34
34 And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
What did we Hear?...
We talked about how we must love and care for each other- God calls people to do this as part of their job.

We also wear a poppy to say thank you to the people that protect and look after us – Soldiers, police officers, doctors and nurses.
Branch 1 Creation & Covenant, Good to be me.
In this first branch of our religious teaching, we hear how God made our beautiful world and everything in it, including us. We learn that the Bible is a special book and hear that when God created the world He said: "Indeed, it is very good", Genesis 1:31. God tells us that we must take good care of all creation. We are to be stewards of creation – it is an extremely important job. We hear and practise the words and actions of the sign of the cross throughout the day: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The children come to believe that God is love; that He made each one of us and loves each one of us as a unique person. God loves us, and we are part of His family. We celebrate God's family and recall how we entered it through Baptism.
We give thanks to God by reflecting on creation and responding to its glory through art, drama, dance, music, meditation and prayer. We learn to live out our faith by loving ourselves, our family, God's world and others. We learn through Catholic Social Teaching about Stewardship – Looking after God’s World and the Dignity of the Human Person; that God made each one of us and each one of us is special; we must treat others in a caring way because God made them too.
At home, you could help your children by:
• Saying prayers together and making the sign of the cross.
• Looking at pictures of animals and plants and talking about how special creation is.
• Encourage them to notice different parts of God’s wonderful creations and think of ways to care for the world

Stewardship
We believe in caring for God's gifts

‘The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work on it and take care of it.’ Genesis 2:15
Stewardship is all about caring for the many gifts that God has given to us. These include our environment, our own talents and other resources. All living things are connected, so we must use God’s gifts responsibly to meet the needs of everyone, now and in the future.
Our Reception Stewardship Mission is to look after our outdoor area – especially, our Allotment Area
The EYFS allotment is an area for children to spend time exploring God's World – learning how things grow and understanding the important elements of looking after a space that they are responsible for. Throughout all the hard work, the children thoroughly enjoy sharing and tasting what they have harvested.
We enjoyed exploring, observing and harvesting our allotment area after the Summer holiday...

The children have been learning about and celebrating the Feast of the Holy Rosary with great joy and reverence.
We talked about how the Rosary helps us to pray and draw closer to Mary and Jesus. As we gathered together, we each held a set of Rosary beads, carefully counting each bead . We talked about the special prayers we say — the Hail Mary, Our Father, and the Glory Be.
We gathered together in prayer, holding our Rosary beads and joining in a decade, showing wonderful focus and respect.
Through this celebration, we know that praying the Rosary is a way to show love for Mary and to thank God for all His blessings.

Allotment Update...
We have been busy helping with the allotment and learning how to care for God’s world. We have enjoyed harvesting the last of the crops, such as carrots, tomatoes, pumpkins and potatoes.
We have been tidying the allotment by sweeping paths, gathering fallen leaves, and adding old plants to the compost. As we explored, we loved spotting minibeasts, noticing the changing colours of the leaves, and collecting natural treasures for our prayer table.
Through these activities, we are learning to be good stewards of God’s creation, showing care and thankfulness for the world around us.

I am Special…
We listened to the word of God ... God says: You are precious to me. I love you. I know you. I know your name. You are my child. Isaiah 43: 1-2
Together we said, 'I am precious. God loves me!'
As we reflect on the Word of God we ask... I wonder how it makes you feel to know that God, somebody who is so important, who is watching over us, knows and loves every single one of us. During this time, we took our photos from the Golden Box and placed them in the centre.
