Summer
Planting
The children have enjoyed learning about the plant life cycle in Science. They discussed how it is important to care for God's world and explored how they can help look after the environment. The children have been carefully looking after their seeds, observing the changes as they grow, and taking responsibility for watering and caring for them. They confidently discussed what plants need in order to grow, including water, sunlight, air, and suitable soil, showing a good understanding of the conditions needed for healthy plant growth.
Judaism
The children thoroughly enjoyed welcoming Simon Caplan to school to talk about his Jewish faith. He shared many fascinating insights into Jewish beliefs, traditions and celebrations, helping the children to deepen their understanding of Judaism and God's wider community. Simon made the assembly highly interactive, encouraging the children to participate, ask questions and engage with his experiences. This wonderful opportunity brought their R.E. learning to life and helped them appreciate how people of different faiths celebrate and express their beliefs. The visit encouraged curiosity, respect and understanding, and the children came away with a greater appreciation of the rich diversity within our wider community.
The Boy Who Grew Dragons
The children have been thoroughly enjoying our whole class reader, The Boy Who Grew Dragons. To help bring the story to life, the children had the exciting opportunity to try dragon fruit for themselves.
As they explored this unusual fruit, the children talked about its appearance, texture, and flavour, and enjoyed making links to the imaginative world of the story. The experience also gave the children a chance to reflect on the many wonderful fruits and foods God has created for us to enjoy, helping them to appreciate the variety and beauty of God’s creation.
The children very much enjoyed trying something new, and the experience helped to immerse them further in the story, sparking curiosity, discussion, and an even greater enthusiasm for reading.
Looking After God’s Creatures at Lunchtime
During lunchtime, the children had a wonderful opportunity to show kindness and care for one of God’s creatures. The children noticed a weak bee in the playground and were keen to help.
Together, they carefully gave the bee some sugar water to help give it energy and make it feel stronger. The children talked about the importance of looking after living things and how even the smallest creatures are an important part of God’s world.
It was a lovely moment of compassion and care, helping the children to understand how we can all play a part in protecting and caring for God’s creation.
Computing - Stop-motion
The children have been absolute experts while learning about stop-motion in Computing. We linked this to our learning about Neil Armstrong, and the children used a stop-motion app to create their own videos inspired by his journey to the Moon. They have shown fantastic creativity, patience and technical skills throughout the process and have been absolutely amazing!
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
There was lovely teamwork on display during wet playtime. The children chose to work together to build the tallest tower they could, showing great collaboration and problem-solving skills. They even linked this to their learning in DT, discussing how bridges can be strengthened to make structures more stable.
Book Fair
The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Book Fair when it arrived in school. They loved spending time reading different books, listening to stories and discovering exciting new titles. There was lots of enthusiasm as the children explored the wide range of books available and talked with their friends about the books they would like to buy. It was wonderful to see the children’s excitement and enthusiasm for reading.
School Trip
We had a fantastic day at Blackpool Zoo and enjoyed every minute of it. The weather was amazing, which made walking around and seeing all the animals even better. There were so many wonderful creatures to see and each enclosure was full of interest. The sea lion show was absolutely fab and one of the highlights of the day – so entertaining and great fun to watch. There was so much more to enjoy too, making it a brilliant day out for everyone.
Art
Year 2 enjoyed creating artwork based on maps. They used wax drawing in different ways, alongside crayons, to make colourful lines and details. Inspired by maps, they created pictures of their journey to school, showing the streets, landmarks and places pass along the way. It was a fun, creative way to think about their own routes and share their experiences.
Flamenco Day
The children were delighted in their flamenco lesson, wearing bright red and beautiful flamenco dresses. They practised their dancing skills—clapping, stomping, and trying each new move with growing confidence. It was a wonderful way to explore other cultures in God’s world, celebrating the joy of learning and sharing traditions.
