Online Safety
Our Online Safety Ambassadors led a session in Year 2 to explore how to stay safe online. The Year 5 Ambassadors shared simple ways of staying safe and played a game with the children to test their knowledge.
The key messages were:
- Think before you click
- If you're ever worried, speak to an adult you know
- Never share any personal information online
Science
The children explore the school grounds for minibeast habitats. They had to use observation and classifying skills to identify the different minibeasts they found.
Maths
The children learnt about the 5 times-table and represented it using a variety of concrete resources. The children quizzed their partner on 5 times-table facts.
Computing
The children used Microsoft Word to practise their copying and pasting skills, develop their typing, and make simple edits to their work. The lesson helped build confidence in using digital tools while improving accuracy and presentation.
Music
This week, the children have been developing their singing skills in music. They practised singing a simple song from memory, focusing on breathing at appropriate points and using a wide pitch range. The children used their voices expressively and creatively, while also listening with concentration and understanding to high-quality recorded music to support their learning.
Maths
Year 2 children represented the ten times table in a variety of ways, using resources such as ten rods, place value counters and coins. This helped the children deepen their understanding of counting in tens and recognising patterns within the ten times table.
Computing
During computing, the children talked about online safety, focusing on what is safe to share and what is not. They remembered key points such as keeping personal information private, not sharing passwords and talking to a trusted adult if they feel worried or unsure.
Maths
In Maths, the children represented the two times table using a range of different manipulatives. They demonstrated strong reasoning skills and clear communication as they explained their representations and shared their thinking with others.
PE
In PE, the children put their fundamental movement skills into practice while taking part in a variety of team-building games. These activities encouraged cooperation, communication and active participation as they worked together and developed confidence in their physical abilities.
Art
In art, the children practised their clay-moulding skills by exploring a range of techniques, including moulding, cutting, scoring, rolling, imprinting, and shaping. Through hands-on experimentation with these processes, they developed control and creativity while working with clay to create a finished clay time piece.
The Great Fire of London
The children enjoyed using a variety of non-chronological reports to find out about The Great Fire of London. The children searched through the text for different statements sharing facts about the fire.
PE - Gymnastic
A wonderful gymnastics lesson this week, exploring different ways of balancing using a variety of points of contact. The children learnt to apply them to different apparatus.
Science
Year 2 became little minibeast explorers during their lesson! They went searching all around the school grounds, discovering minibeasts in different microhabitats like under logs, in the soil and among the plants. They talked about and decided which conditions would be best for minibeasts to live in, noticing things like light, moisture and shelter. Then, they had fun classifying the minibeasts, grouping them by their features and learning all about these fascinating creatures. What an exciting adventure in science!
Art
This half-term, we will be learning about 3D sculptures. We will explore different sculptures and talk about their shapes and textures. The children will have fun using clay and special clay tools to squeeze, roll, pinch, and shape their own creations. By the end of the topic, everyone will make their very own clay sculpture and enjoy being creative while using their hands and imagination. What creative children we have!
Computing
The children are beginning to learn about word processing. They have been learning about the keyboard and how to use different fingers to help them type. The children also played a game called Typing Club to practise where to place their hands on the keyboard and to improve their typing skills. Such an important skill for children to develop!
Spanish
In Spanish, the children learnt about the festival of Epiphany and how it is celebrated in Spain. They found out about the Three Kings and the special parades that take place. The children also learnt how to say star, kings, camel and presents in Spanish and enjoyed practising these new words.
Snow
The children had a wonderful time exploring the wintery outdoors, delighting in the soft, sparkling snow. Our mud kitchen was quickly transformed into a “snow kitchen,” sparking imaginative play as they mixed, scooped, and created snowy concoctions. Laughter filled the air as they experimented and played together, enjoying the simple magic of snow and the endless possibilities for creative fun.
Maths
The children have been learning about repeated addition in maths and how this links to multiplication. They explored how adding the same number again and again can be written more efficiently as a multiplication sentence. Practical resources such as counters, cubes, and conkers were used to support understanding and help the children visualise equal groups. Throughout the lessons, the children demonstrated strong engagement and used a wide range of correct mathematical language, including terms such as groups of, altogether, times and equals, to explain their thinking clearly and confidently.
