World Book Day
What a wonderful day the children had celebrating and sharing wonderful stories together. It was fantastic to see all the creative costumes the children came up with, bringing their favourite characters and stories to life. Days like this remind us how stories can inspire our imaginations and help us appreciate the many gifts God has given us, including creativity and a love of reading. See the pictures below for a small snippet of our day. 📚✨
Lots - The Diversity of Life on Earth
The children really enjoyed exploring the book Lots: The Diversity of Life on Earth. They were fascinated as they looked at the many different plants, animals, and habitats that make up our world. Together, we talked about God’s beautiful Earth and how special it is, and the children shared their thoughts about why it is important to look after our planet so that all the wonderful things in it can continue to grow and thrive. After the story, the children worked happily in groups, using adjectives to describe what they could see in the pictures. They came up with lots of lovely descriptive words to talk about the colours, shapes, and features of the amazing life on Earth. 🌍📚✨
Online Safety
Our Online Safety Ambassadors led a session in Year 2 to explore how to stay safe online. The Year 5 Ambassadors shared simple ways of staying safe and played a game with the children to test their knowledge.
The key messages were:
- Think before you click
- If you're ever worried, speak to an adult you know
- Never share any personal information online
Science
The children explored the school grounds to discover some of the creatures that live in God’s wonderful world. As they searched for minibeasts and their habitats, they used their observation and classifying skills to identify the different creatures they found, thinking about the many living things God has placed in our world. 🐞🌿
Maths
The children learnt about the 5 times-table and represented it using a variety of concrete resources. The children quizzed their partner on 5 times-table facts.
Computing
The children used Microsoft Word to practise their copying and pasting skills, develop their typing, and make simple edits to their work. The lesson helped build confidence in using digital tools while improving accuracy and presentation.
Music
This week, the children have been developing their singing skills in music. They practised singing a simple song from memory, focusing on breathing at appropriate points and using a wide pitch range. The children used their voices expressively and creatively, while also listening with concentration and understanding to high-quality recorded music to support their learning.
Maths
Year 2 children represented the ten times table in a variety of ways, using resources such as ten rods, place value counters and coins. This helped the children deepen their understanding of counting in tens and recognising patterns within the ten times table.
Computing
During computing, the children talked about online safety, focusing on what is safe to share and what is not. They remembered key points such as keeping personal information private, not sharing passwords and talking to a trusted adult if they feel worried or unsure.
Maths
In Maths, the children represented the two-times table using a range of different manipulatives. They demonstrated strong reasoning skills and clear communication as they explained their representations and shared their thinking with others.
PE
In PE, the children put their fundamental movement skills into practice while taking part in a variety of team-building games. These activities encouraged cooperation, communication and active participation as they worked together and developed confidence in their physical abilities.
Art
In art, the children practised their clay-moulding skills by exploring a range of techniques, including moulding, cutting, scoring, rolling, imprinting, and shaping. Through hands-on experimentation with these processes, they developed control and creativity while working with clay to create a finished clay time piece.
The Great Fire of London
