Autumn

Pantomime

The Year 2 children were captivated by the Christmas pantomime, joining in with laughter, cheers, and plenty of festive excitement. What a wonderful way to start the Christmas period!

Playtime - Investigating Capacity

Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed investigating capacity during playtime. They used different-sized jugs and containers to find out which could hold the most. The children also loved making their own “potions,” experimenting with how large or small they could make them.

Computing

In our recent computing lessons, the children had great fun exploring algorithms in a hands-on and engaging way. They began by giving their partners clear, step-by-step instructions using Multilink cubes, quickly discovering how important it is to be precise—and how exciting it can be when their instructions work perfectly! The children then took their learning online, creating their own digital algorithms using the programme Coding for Carrots. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experimented, problem-solved, and enjoyed learning together.

Maths

The children have been learning how to use number facts to add a two-digit number and two one-digit numbers. They practised spotting useful number bonds, adding the ones first, and then combining their totals with the tens. They also had fun exploring different ways to show their thinking, like using tens and ones and part-whole models. This really helped them feel more confident with their calculations and see how number facts can make adding much easier.

Poetry Recital

We are incredibly proud of all the children who took part in the poetry recital. They showed wonderful confidence, enthusiasm, and expression as they performed their poems in front of others. Each child put in so much effort to practise and prepare, and it truly shone through on the day. It was a joy to see them embrace the experience and share their talent with such courage and pride.

Español

In Spanish, the children had a great time learning the numbers 1–5 through lots of fun games. They loved practising the words together, joining in with activities, and challenging themselves to remember each number. The games kept everyone engaged and excited, and the children grew more confident through each game!

Poetry Recital

Our Wonderful Year 2 class practised performing their poems ahead of our poetry recital.

Remembrance Day PE

During PE, Year 2 learnt about The Lambeth Walk and had a go at performing it themselves. They learnt about counting to a beat of 8 to help keep the rhythm of a dance.

Maths

In maths, the children learnt how to use number bonds to help them add to the next ten. They explored how breaking numbers into tens and ones can make addition easier and more efficient. The children also used part-whole models to represent their thinking and to show how different numbers can be combined to make a total.

Cursive Writing

We have been working hard in Year 2 on our cursive handwriting. We have practised 'k' and linked it to our 'kn' spelling rule. Take a look below!

Science

In our recent science lessons, the children have been learning all about the life cycles of animals. From eggs to adults, they explored how different creatures grow and change. Each child created their very own life cycle wheel to show what they learned - and we had some fantastic class discussions along the way! Take a look at their amazing work below!

Music

Key Stage 1 enjoyed a fantastic music assembly with Trafford Music Service. The children learnt about a variety of musical instruments and enjoyed joining in.

Computing

The children used technology to act out how we use technology in real life. The children shared that we see technology in:

  • supermarkets
  • offices
  • schools
  •  museums
Maths

The children used equipment, ten frames, part whole models and bar models to represent adding 3 one digit numbers.

World Mental Health Day

For World Mental Health Day, the children celebrated how wonderfully God made each and every one of us. They reflected on how God has given everyone unique gifts and special talents that make us who we are. After listening to the story You Be You, the children drew beautiful pictures of themselves, celebrating their individuality and the special gifts God has placed within them.

Playtime

Year 2 have enjoyed playing with our new playtime equipment- lots of basic and fundamental skills brewing put into practise.

Languages Day

Our class celebrated Languages Day by sharing the languages they know, the languages spoken in their families, and new languages they have been learning. To highlight how languages open our hearts and minds and bring us together, the children created a vibrant “people chain” representing the diversity of languages in our community. They also made colourful posters and drawings to showcase their favourite words and phrases from different languages, making the day both creative and meaningful.

Cursive Writing

Our wonderful Year 2 class have been practising their cursive writing every day. They are showing great focus and determination. We’re already seeing fantastic improvements in their work!

PE

In PE, Year 2 have been practising their basic skills by learning how to control their jumping.

Computing

During our computing lesson, Year 2 learnt about different technology. They learnt about the different inputs and outputs technology has, the children were challenged to design their own robots and think about inputs and outputs.

School Values

Key Stage 1 playtime has lots of teamwork today!

Maths

As part of our place value unit, Year 2 delved into two-digit numbers. The children explored the value of each digit in a hands-on way, using items from our playground to represent tens and ones, making learning both active and fun.

PSHE

During our PSHE lessons we have been learning about our families and exploring how different families are and importantly, what our families provide for us.

English

The children enjoyed listening to the poem `The Magic Box` by Kit Wright. They then used their imagination to create their own poem - they had some brilliant, creative ideas. Here is just a small selection below.

Maths

In Maths, Year 2 have been exploring two-digit numbers up to 100. They have been investigating the place value of each digit by creating their own numbers and using hands-on activities to show the value of the tens and ones. Learning was active, fun, and full of discovery!

Art

The children used different tools to make a variety of textures and patterns. The childre will then use these to make their own collages in the coming weeks.

Music

The children listened to different animal sounds and discussed the dynamics. They were then challenged to use untuned instruments to create an animal sound.

Geography

The children learnt about the 4 countries in the UK,  they were then challenged to locate the UK on a globe.

Computing

The children learnt about the different parts of the computer. They then practised their mouse skills by making a computer on SketchPad.

Science

The children worked in small groups to sort what animals needed to survive. The children sorted them into ivory important, quite important and not important.

Colour Mixing in Art

The children explored what would happen if you mixed primary colours.

The Magic Box

Year 2 listened to the poem 'The Magic Box' by Kit Wright and explored its features. The children then made their own magic box.

Team Building

Year 2 worked on their team building skills to tackle different challenges.
