Spanish

We continue our relationship with our link school in Spain, Colegio Santiago Apostol, in Ponteareas, in the north-west region and further grow our connection. It was so lovely to reunite over Zoom this week! The children were all super excited. Anna and Paul, the teachers from Colegio Santiago Apostol are proposing to bring their Spanish children to visit our school in mid/late March 2026 and are looking for families of our Year 5 and 6 children who would be willing to provide accommodation for our Spanish friends for their week-long stay. We have a delegation returning to Spain for a weekend trip in June 2026, when we will stay together in the beautiful accommodation adjoining the Convento de San Diego de Canedo, just outside Poneareas! 

All Saints' Poetry Recital 2025 Remembrance Day

We are super proud of these Year 6 for performing their poems in the Recital. Well done everyone!

Bikeability

Every single Year 6 children achieved their proficiency in cycling qualification. A huge thanks to the Bikeability Team for all their instruction. We had a Wheelie good time and braved all sorts of weather! 
 

Music

This Friday afternoon, Year 6 worked together to conduct Georges Bizet’s The March of the Toreadors from the opera Carmen. The children took turns leading the class as conductors, using clear hand movements to keep everyone in time with the lively rhythm of the music. They listened carefully, watched each other closely, and demonstrated fantastic teamwork and focus. It was a wonderful way to explore classical music and understand how a conductor helps bring a performance to life!

Spanish

We loved meeting our new Foreign Language Assistant, Senor Lopez, he told us all about himself. We made the Sign of the Cross in Spanish. The Sign of the Cross en espanol.

 

PSHE

A huge thank you to the team from  Healthy Schools who came to speak to Year 6 about the dangers presented by smoking and e-cigarettes in a workshop about the dangers of e-cigarettes and vaping. 

Science

This week in Science, Year 6 took part in a fascinating hands-on investigation — dissecting a lamb’s heart! The children were excited (and a little nervous!) to see for themselves how the heart works as a pump to circulate blood around the body. They carefully examined the chambers, valves, and major blood vessels, identifying how oxygenated and deoxygenated blood flow through the heart.

We were amazed to discover how similar a lamb’s heart is to a human heart — both have four chambers and work in the same way — but they noticed that the lamb’s heart is smaller and more compact. A  opportunity to bring their learning about the circulatory system to life and to see real science in action.

World Mental Health Day-Friday 10th October

In Year 6, we celebrated World Mental Health Day by recognising that everyone has mental health, just like we all have physical health. We explored some of the challenges that children can face—such as worries, self-esteem, friendships, and managing emotions—and discussed how it’s okay to talk about our feelings and ask for help when we need it.

We reflected on the lyrics of “Both Sides Now” by Joni Mitchell and “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman, thinking about what these songs tell us about self-acceptance, resilience, and understanding ourselves and others. Inspired by these ideas, we created expressive self-portraits to celebrate who we are and wrote powerful emotion poems that captured our thoughts and feelings.

We made links between our physical and mental health and the importance of healthy friendships, online habits and sleep.

It was a thoughtful and creative day, reminding us that our mental health matters — every day of the year.

International Day of Languages

Today we used a video to open a discussion about languages; what languages they know? Who loves language learning? Why? Some of us are bilingual and we talked about the  language, culture and traditions of our families. Those of us who hosted Spanish exchange children shared their experiences. How did they feel? What did we learn? What did we find challenging or rewarding? We found lots football fans were flag experts! Our language enthusiasts were able to show off what they know. We are all really looking forward to meeting our new Spanish Teacher, Mr Lomax next week.

History

We have been asking, 'Is it ever right to fight?' as we begin our learning about war. We have worked in groups to place some battles, conflicts and wars on a timeline of British History. Many of us feel there are some freedoms worth fighting for. 
 

 

Buddy Lunch

In our roles as mentors and leaders we met up with our buddies in Reception for lunch.  We had so much valuable talk time.

Science

Year 6 put their hearts-quite literally-into these plasticine hearts! Some absolute masterpieces and very valuable discussions about which parts went where.
