Autumn
DT
During DT, the children explored a range of structures, focusing especially on frame structures, using marshmallows and sticks. They carefully considered how to make their designs strong and stable, experimenting with different ideas and learning through trial and improvement. The photos below highlight their creativity, resilience and teamwork as they built their models.
Science
In science, the children have been busy classifying leaves. They carefully observed shape, size, edges, and patterns to sort and group different types of leaves. Through this hands-on investigation, they developed their observation skills and learnt how scientists classify living things. The photos below show their curiosity and thoughtful discussion as they explored the natural world.
Computing
The children have been busy using Scratch to create and explore blocks of code. Through this hands-on learning, they are developing problem-solving skills, logical thinking and creativity as they design their own programs. The photos below show their focus, teamwork and excitement as they bring their ideas to life through coding.
Geography
This year, our curious learners have been exploring the countries of Europe—discovering flags and traditions along the way. The photos below capture the children working together, asking great questions and enjoying their journey around Europe. We’re proud of their enthusiasm and teamwork as they learn about the world beyond the classroom!
Inter-Class Tournaments.
Years 3 and 4 enjoyed putting their skills into practise during our inter-class football tournament. What a wonderful way to put their skills into action.
Heart of Gold Award- The First of the Year
This Golden award was given to a very special young man as he showed a tremendous amount of care and consideration for other peoples' feelings and helped some of the younger children when they were feeling a little under the weather. What a lovely, helpful young person. We are lucky to have him in our beautiful class.

Reading
We are having great fun reading the BFG by Roald Dahl and answering lots of vocabulary, inference, prediction, recall and summarising questions on it.
Writing
The Lighthouse Keeper – A diary entry
We have worked hard to look at fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases as well as including feelings in our diary entries. The children have produced some lovely writing!
Maths
We have been honing our column subtraction knowledge and using dienes to support our calculations.
Maths
We have now challenged ourselves to find the most efficient way to subtract! Should we use column subtraction or a mental strategy? A lot of maths talk and being able to explain their reasoning.
Art
We are studying 'The Rainforest' in Art. We have created some mood boards to capture the colours and patterns from the rainforest fruit and vegetation art we completed last week. Next week, we will add some highlight colours to our mood boards using water colours or pastels.
P.E
The children are learning hockey this half-term. They are working hard on sending, receiving and dribbling. The children are also doing extremely well in their swimming lessons, which are an hour long! However, they still have lots of energy at the end, so they can do lots more work when we return to school!
Music
Year 4 are working on a rainforest theme for their music lesson. They are starting to identify the texture and structure of a piece of music, and then they are developing some body percussion based on the Rainforest theme. They are certainly having fun working in groups.
Computing
We used Word and PowerPoint to research and present information about our House Saints - St. Christopher, St Carlos Acutis, St Sebastian, St Lucy, St. Oscar Romero, and St Joan of Arc.
International Day of Languages - Friday 26th September
We celebrated this day by looking at the Spanish artist 'Gaudi ', as we are also learning Spanish. We recreated some of his artwork using colourful dotted paintwork.
