Branch 3- Galilee to Jerusalem

In this branch, our class will focus on the life and teachings of Jesus, discovering how He showed God’s love to everyone and cared for all people, especially the poor and vulnerable. We will start by learning about the visit of the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12), who brought gifts to the newborn Jesus, recognising Him as God's Son, the Saviour of the world. Jesus came for everyone, and His birth is celebrated at Christmas as the moment God entered the world in love. We will also learn about how Jesus welcomed children and showed compassion for all people, teaching us that we, too, are called to show love and care to others in our words and actions, just as Jesus did (Mark 10:13-16). We will reflect on the miracle of the feeding of the 5000 (John 6:1-14), where Jesus took care of the hungry, reminding us that Jesus wants us to help those in need. As we explore these stories, we will also learn about the Church’s prayer, the "Glory Be," which is prayed in response to the coming of Jesus, praising God's greatness and love for all.

At home you can help your child by:

• Reminding your child that the gifts received at Christmas are a sign of your love. By saying thank you for those gifts we are also showing love.

• Sharing Bible stories with them. If you do not already have a children’s Bible you might like to think about buying one of the many beautifully illustrated versions that are available.

• Visiting the church when it is quiet and lighting a candle and saying a prayer.

• Sharing bedtime prayers with your child and remembering family and friends who need our prayers.

• It is good to continue to visit the crib in the Church in the weeks that it remains there after Christmas.

Our theme this half term concentrates on building the knowledge that God loves everyone.

God is love.

We have enjoyed listening to many stories about Jesus helping others. We know that we are called to follow His example by helping those in need, especially the poor, showing kindness, generosity and love in our daily lives.

Our First Class Mass

❤️Theme - Love ❤️

We truly enjoyed celebrating our first Class Mass with our Year 6 buddies. The theme of the Mass was love, which connects beautifully to the Catholic Social Teaching principle of The Common Good - Taking Part in Our Communities. Through praying, singing, and participating together, we learned how important it is to care for one another and to contribute positively to our school community.

As we continue getting to know Jesus as a loving friend, we have been listening to Bible stories about Him blessing the little children. These stories remind us that Jesus welcomes everyone with kindness and love, and that we are called to show that same love to others.

🥖Feeding of the 5000🐟

We talked about our learning so far – The Magi visiting baby Jesus, Jesus growing as a little boy, Jesus blessing the children…

We used our Golden Box to share the miracle of the Feeding of the 5,000. Together, we talked about the word miracle and what it means. We know that miracles are signs of God’s love and power.

The children shared their own ideas about miracles we see every day. Louie said God’s beautiful world is a miracle. Harlie noticed the snow falling gently to the ground. Chile spoke about the plants and flowers growing. Niamh reminded us that we are gifts too. Eleanor shared that pumpkins growing in our pumpkin patch are a miracle.

We discussed how sometimes we cannot fully explain why a miracle does or does not happen, yet we can still choose to believe with faith. We know that God is behind all the miracles we encounter. We especially enjoyed listening to the story The Boy Who Shared His Sandwich, which helped us understand how even small acts of sharing can become something wonderful in God’s hands.

In a large group, and later in smaller groups, we explored a painting of the Feeding of the 5,000. The children were encouraged to talk and make links to the Bible story through thoughtful questions:

Which part do you like the most?
Close your eyes and imagine you are someone in the painting.
What are you doing — watching, talking, or helping?

Through these discussions, we deepened our understanding of the miracle and reflected on how Jesus cared for the crowd by providing food when they were hungry.

❤️ What is Love ❤️

We have been talking about love and what it truly means. Niamh shared a beautiful thought: “Love is a word and an action. We can show love in different ways by sharing, caring and helping our friends.” Together, we explored how love is not just something we say, but something we do.

We wondered, How does it feel to be loved?
Freddie said it feels warm.
Caden said it feels happy.
Florence said it feels excited.

During our prayer time, we listened to God’s Word from the Bible, including Saint Paul’s letter to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 13). Paul reminds us that without love, we are like a clanging cymbal — just noise! We talked about how love gives meaning to our actions and helps us to act with kindness and care.

We reflected on Paul’s teaching that love is patient and kind, and that it is not jealous or boastful. We learned that when we give and share, we should do so freely and with a loving heart.

Over the past few weeks, we have listened to many stories about how Jesus helped others. These stories show us how Jesus lived out love in action — by healing, welcoming, feeding and forgiving.

All of our learning links beautifully with our school mission statement:
“Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34).

Jesus calls us to love others in the same generous and selfless way that He loves us. We are learning that this means showing kindness, including everyone, helping those in need and speaking gentle words.

We have been thinking carefully about how we can show our family and friends that we love them. We know that love is shown through both actions and words.

We have enjoyed singing “Magic Penny” and “Lord, You Have My Heart”, reminding us that love grows when we share it.

To put our learning into action, we created Prayer Love Cards to show others how to love. We made beautiful hearts to give glory to God for all He has given us, and we threaded hearts for our loved ones to say thank you for their love and care.

Through our prayers, songs and actions, we are living out our mission to love one another just as Jesus loves us.

This is a very special story that shows how Jesus warmly welcomed the children and blessed them. Even when others tried to turn them away, Jesus made it clear that the children were important and that they belonged with Him.

We learned that Jesus wanted the little children to come to Him, and He still invites all children to come close to Him today. He loves children deeply, listens to them, and wants to talk with them.

Through our drama and discussion, we were reminded that we are precious in Jesus’ eyes and that we are always welcome in His loving presence.

We know when Jesus grew up into a man, he told everyone all about God. We invited the children to think about who Jesus wants to come to Him? – Is anyone not welcome to see Jesus?

We know that everyone is welcome to come to Jesus, especially children. Each one of us is very special to Him and He lovingly invites us to come closer to Him.

We began to wonder: How can we come to Jesus? How can we talk to Him? Where are the special places where we can feel close to Him?

We know that talking to Jesus is called prayer, we can pray anytime and anywhere. We explored some special ways that help us speak to our friend Jesus. We went on a walk around our school to discover different places where we could quietly enjoy time in prayer. Along the way, we also noticed meaningful objects that remind us of Jesus and help us feel close to Him.

We are learning the Glory Be Prayer... We give thanks to God for all the wonderful things he has given us.

We know that many of Jesus’s friends were fishermen. We talked about the role of a fisherman and looked at the map of the area where Jesus lived

We read from the Holy Bible – Jesus Calls the Disciples Luke 5:10-11

An amazing thing happened! When they started pulling the nets up, there were so many fish that the nets began to break. As they pulled the fish into the boat, there were so many fish that the boat was beginning to sink. When Peter and his fellow fishermen saw this, they were astonished and even a bit frightened.

Jesus said, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will fish for people." (Luke 5:10-11)

The Bible story tells us that they pulled their boats up onto the shore, left everything, and followed Jesus. From that day on, Peter and his friends fished for people and brought many into God's kingdom.

We have enjoyed learning all about the Holy Family

Following on from our night sky investigations, the children have thoroughly enjoyed creating their own telescopes, just like the Three Kings. Through this activity, they have been encouraged to talk about what they might see in the night sky, share ideas, ask questions and explain their thinking. This has helped to develop their oracy skills by building confidence in speaking, listening to others, and using new vocabulary related to space and the story of the Three Kings.

We have been inspired by the story of the Three Kings and their journey to find the baby Jesus, guided by the stars in the night sky. This has led us to explore how the stars can form patterns and constellations.

The children have been investigating different star patterns and learning about constellations, before creating their own beautiful and imaginative constellations. This has been a wonderful opportunity to combine storytelling, curiosity about the world and creative expression.

We created beautiful crowns in honour of the Magi and God for giving us His only Son.

We celebrated the feast of the Epiphany as a whole school. We dressed up as kings, enjoyed attending Mass and visiting the All Saints Church crib

We listened to a number of stories about the Magi visiting Jesus. The children explored the journey the Wise Men took using small world. We talked about the long journey and created a tuff tray with different types of terrain. We thought carefully about the scripture story. We used pictures to retell the story of the Magi

The children were very intrigued to find out about the Kings journey …On the way to find baby Jesus they met King Herod in his palace and asked him to tell them where baby Jesus was. King Herod was keen to meet baby Jesus too. God told them in a dream that King Herod was a bad man and wanted to hurt baby Jesus. They all had the same dream so the Wise Men did not go back and went home the other way. The children were very shocked that King Herod tried to trick the Magi

Celebrate

When the Wise Men visited the baby Jesus, they were very happy that God had given us the baby Jesus. We are also so happy that God gave us His Son. We can tell God how wonderful we think He is by giving glory to Him. This means telling Him how wonderful He is when we talk to Him in our prayers… We are learning the Glory Be prayer

The Wise Men followed a star and came to visit baby Jesus.

We listened to the Gospel story from St Matthew (Matthew 2:1-12). … God wanted everyone to know about the birth of baby Jesus, God’s son. There were no phones or televisions or the internet in the world when Jesus lived. To let people who lived far away know that Jesus had been born, God sent a special star.

Well done children for answering these questions brilliantly … We had so much fun retelling the Christmas story through songs and Bible quotes.

Branch 2 – Prophecy and Promise

Autumn 2 begins in November, the month when we remember those who have died, and then progress on to Advent; this begins on the Sunday after the feast of Christ the King and lasts until the Christmas holidays.

In this branch, children will explore the beautiful story of the prophecy and promise of Jesus' birth. The angel Gabriel told Mary she would have a son named Jesus (Luke 1:26-31, 38). Jesus was born in Bethlehem, laid in a humble manger (Luke 2:4-7), and visited by shepherds who were guided by angels to come and see him (Luke 2:8-20). This includes key moments like the Annunciation, the Nativity, and the visit of the shepherds.

Children will also learn about Advent traditions, including the Advent wreath and the nativity crib, as well as how different cultures around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus. Through these traditions, we reflect on the meaning of Advent: preparing our hearts, helping others, and showing our love to God.

As we move towards Advent and Christmas, we will begin to develop an awareness of our Church family.

You can help at home by:

Attending our All Saints’ Sunday Family Mass at 9.30am
Making a point of greeting friends at Church.
Talking about what the child sees and hears at Church.
Having a little advent wreath and lighting another candle each week with a prayer.
Enjoying the rich symbolism of the seasons – point out the advent wreath, the Christmas tree and the crib.

Our Advent Poem

4 3 2 1… Count the weeks till Jesus comes,

Each week we add another light,

I know that Jesus came for the whole world.

As part of the church’s Year of the Jubilee of Hope, Icons of the Visitation, as represented in the stained-glass window in Shrewsbury Cathedral, will travel on pilgrimage around our Diocese.

One of these beautiful Jubilee Icons, depicting the Visitation, when Mary travelled ‘with haste’ to help her cousin Elizabeth, soon to give birth to her first child, was on display in school. Reception spent time looking at the picture. We knew that 'Jesus was our Saviour, 'Mary and Elizabeth's babies were very special and that 'Mary's baby was going to be called Jesus and Elizabeth's would be called John The Baptist.

I know Shepherds visited Jesus in the stable.

We explored the Scripture of Luke 2:8-20

We discussed the idea that God wanted His people to know about the birth of His Son but he didn’t choose the rich or important to tell first. He chose humble shepherds because Jesus had come for everyone – especially those who were poor or not important to the world.

The people of God had waited a long time for God to send them a Saviour. God wanted them to know that His Son had been born. God sent His angels to give the message to simple shepherds to be the very first people to know about the birth of Jesus. Shepherds were very poor and simple people -They were often looked down upon by others. God wanted to show that Jesus had come to earth for all of us and that God thinks that we are all important. The Shepherds hurried to visit Jesus in the stable and praised God for giving us His Son. The shepherds also had a very important job, given to them by the angels, to tell everyone they met about the birth of the new king.

God sent His angels to bring the message of great joy to the Shepherds. The angels praised God by singing Hosannahs.

We can praise God too, for sending His Son to us to save us all.

I wonder why the angels appeared to the shepherds? God wanted people to know that Jesus came for everyone.

I wonder why the shepherds travelled to visit Jesus in the stable? The Angels told them to go. They hurried to see Jesus, the Son of God and Saviour -King of Kings

Jubilee Icons
As part of our Jubilee celebrations, we were delighted to welcome the Jubilee Icons to our school today from Holy Family School. The Icon is travelling around the schools of the Diocese, and we are blessed to host it for a few days before it moves on.

The Icons are photographs of a beautiful stained-glass window in Shrewsbury Cathedral, depicting The Visitation, the second Joyful Mystery of the Rosary. This scene shows Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth to share the joyful news that she is expecting Jesus. The Icon was blessed by Bishop Mark at Easter and is now making its pilgrimage to every school in the Diocese of Shrewsbury.

We welcomed the Icon with a torchlight procession alongside Holy Family School. Two Reception children, dressed as Mary and Elizabeth, greeted the children as they arrived. We then gathered as a whole school for a Celebration of the Word.

During its time with us, each class will have the opportunity to learn more about the image of The Visitation, taken from one of the Margaret Rope windows in the Cathedral, and to spend time in prayer, reflection, and contemplation.

Travelling Bag

The children are loving the opportunity to take home the travelling nativity bag and share it with their families. We are really enjoying listening to the beautiful prayers they are creating at home.

The night you have the crib in your house please: Unpack the box and set up the crib scene. Light the candle, share the Nativity story together. Take a few moments to be silent and reflect on what Christmas means to you.

In the prayer book-Please encourage your child to draw a picture, write about the night the travelling crib was in your home or write a prayer. Please send any pictures (via Tapestry) to school with the crib tomorrow. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Please bless our home and family on this special night as we remember the journey to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Help us to cherish this special time together and to remember the true meaning of Christmas. Amen.

Advent Stay and Pray with our Families…

We gathered together to listen to the Word Of God and thought about what we hoped for. We created a class Advent wreath and made an advent crown.

I know Jesus was born in a stable and laid in a manger.

Jesus was born in a stable and Mary wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger. God could have chosen for His son to be born anywhere -the greatest palace -but He didn’t. He chose a simple and humble stable. Jesus was the son of God, the saviour of mankind, the king of kings but God wanted Him to be a king of all people – not a rich and powerful king that people would be afraid to approach. God wants us all to be able to come to baby Jesus in the manger and know that He came for all of us.

We looked at a model of Jesus in the manger.

I wonder what the town of Bethlehem looked like…

We listened to the hymn ‘O Little town of Bethlehem’ and look at some paintings of Bethlehem by different artists. We invited the children to consider how this little ordinary town became a very well known and important place for Christians. We created our own Bethlehem by painting, collaging and making one of the buildings to join together to make the town.

We used candles to support the houses so they light up in the dark…

We invited the children to think about what a stable and a manger would have been like to stay in. The children enjoyed exploring building different stables as shelters for Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus.

I know that Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem.

After reading Scripture of Luke 2:4-7 we used Godly play to share and explore the reading. We also enjoyed dressing up and retold the story through drama.

We looked closely at the map and discussed their journey.

We know Mary said Yes to God and He wants us to say ‘Yes’ too.

Through the chime bar, we invited the children to sit in a circle observed some images of Bethlehem and Mary and Joseph travelling. We reflected upon all the challenges and difficulties that Mary and Joseph may have encountered on the journey. We talked about how important prayer and trust in God’s help must have been to them both. We listened to some suggestions of what they may have prayed for on the journey.

We asked the children to think about things that they find difficult sometimes. We invited the children to ‘bring to God’ something that they find difficult – ‘Lord please help me with…….’ e.g being kind, my green words, riding by bike…

How can you be brave today?

Bethlehem was not a very large or important town but God chose it to be the birthplace of His Son because He wanted His Son to be for everyone – especially the poor and unimportant people. When Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem, there was nowhere for them to stay because lots of people had come to Bethlehem to register too.

We begin by celebrating Mary’s Yes, to Angel Gabriel. The children will learn that Mary was chosen by God...

Good News…

We enjoy sharing good news in Reception.

Our Tapestry Online Journal is full of good news from our families – Thank you everyone for sharing your Good News!

We received a special letter from God… Asking us to read a special story from the Bible.

We read the scripture passage from Luke 1:19 and used drama to retell the passage.

We sang an Angel came from heaven and listened to the story, ‘The Angel Gabriel comes to see Mary’.

Why do we wear a Poppy?

During our Prayer time we talked about the special ‘poppy’ flower …

After World War I, bright red poppy flowers started growing on the battlefields in France and Belgium where many soldiers had fought. People were amazed to see these beautiful flowers growing in places that had been destroyed by war.

A soldier named John McCrae wrote a poem called “In Flanders Fields” about the poppies, it helped everyone remember the soldiers who had died.

That’s why today, people wear red poppies on Remembrance Day (November 11th) to honour and remember all the brave soldiers who fought for peace.

We also wear a poppy to say thank you to the people that protect and look after us – Soldiers, police officers, doctors and nurses.

Branch 1 Creation & Covenant, Good to be me.

In this first branch of our religious teaching, we hear how God made our beautiful world and everything in it, including us. We learn that the Bible is a special book and hear that when God created the world He said: "Indeed, it is very good", Genesis 1:31. God tells us that we must take good care of all creation. We are to be stewards of creation – it is an extremely important job. We hear and practise the words and actions of the sign of the cross throughout the day: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The children come to believe that God is love; that He made each one of us and loves each one of us as a unique person. God loves us, and we are part of His family. We celebrate God's family and recall how we entered it through Baptism.

We give thanks to God by reflecting on creation and responding to its glory through art, drama, dance, music, meditation and prayer. We learn to live out our faith by loving ourselves, our family, God's world and others. We learn through Catholic Social Teaching about Stewardship – Looking after God’s World and the Dignity of the Human Person; that God made each one of us and each one of us is special; we must treat others in a caring way because God made them too.

At home, you could help your children by:

• Saying prayers together and making the sign of the cross.

• Looking at pictures of animals and plants and talking about how special creation is.

• Encourage them to notice different parts of God’s wonderful creations and think of ways to care for the world

Stewardship

We believe in caring for God's gifts

‘The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work on it and take care of it.’ Genesis 2:15

Stewardship is all about caring for the many gifts that God has given to us. These include our environment, our own talents and other resources. All living things are connected, so we must use God’s gifts responsibly to meet the needs of everyone, now and in the future.

Our Reception Stewardship Mission is to look after our outdoor area – especially, our Allotment Area

The EYFS allotment is an area for children to spend time exploring God's World – learning how things grow and understanding the important elements of looking after a space that they are responsible for. Throughout all the hard work, the children thoroughly enjoy sharing and tasting what they have harvested.

The children have been learning about and celebrating the Feast of the Holy Rosary with great joy and reverence.

We talked about how the Rosary helps us to pray and draw closer to Mary and Jesus. As we gathered together, we each held a set of Rosary beads, carefully counting each bead . We talked about the special prayers we say — the Hail Mary, Our Father, and the Glory Be.

We gathered together in prayer, holding our Rosary beads and joining in a decade, showing wonderful focus and respect.

Through this celebration, we know that praying the Rosary is a way to show love for Mary and to thank God for all His blessings.

We are learning about stewardship.

God asks us to take good care of our beautiful world. This is an important job called stewardship.

Stewardship is an important job that God has given us. This means we must take care of the world.

We have heard how God made a beautiful world and everything in it.

We enjoyed sharing the creation story again with the children and focused on the part that shows Adam and Eve ‘in charge’ of the plants and animals, helping God to care for the beautiful world. We talked about the word stewardship – that it is an important job to care for the world around us. We believe that God made everything in our beautiful world and God asks us to take good care of it.

Allotment Update...

We have been busy helping with the allotment and learning how to care for God’s world. We have enjoyed harvesting the last of the crops, such as carrots, tomatoes, pumpkins and potatoes.

We have been tidying the allotment by sweeping paths, gathering fallen leaves, and adding old plants to the compost. As we explored, we loved spotting minibeasts, noticing the changing colours of the leaves, and collecting natural treasures for our prayer table.

Through these activities, we are learning to be good stewards of God’s creation, showing care and thankfulness for the world around us.

Today, we went on a creation walk. We looked at all the good things God has given us. We then created our own 'good' creatures of the sea and land.

Today we showed kindness to our friends by making them a friendship bracelet.

Bible Buddies

These dedicated children share Bible stories, helping to foster a love for God, reading and encouraging a sense of community. Through their kindness and enthusiasm, Bible Buddies inspire our children with positive values and teachings. It's a special time when older and younger children come together to learn, grow, and connect.

God is happy with us and loves us. We are special to God so we must try and look after ourselves for God.

We are learning that some things are better for our bodies…healthy food choices, getting enough sleep, exercise, drinking water, washing hands. God wants us to be happy and healthy so we can enjoy the world He gave us.

We have enjoyed working outside with the children, encouraging them to set up their own fitness trails. We are trying hard to improve our gross motor skills.

Prayer Time

As we Gather together for Prayer time, we sound the Chime Bar as the children sit in a circle.

During our Prayer sessions we try hard to remember what we need for the Prayer Table.

This week as we listen to the word of God we are thinking about how Special We Are...

I am Special…

We listened to the word of God ... God says: You are precious to me. I love you. I know you. I know your name. You are my child. Isaiah 43: 1-2

Together we said, 'I am precious. God loves me!'

As we reflect on the Word of God we ask... I wonder how it makes you feel to know that God, somebody who is so important, who is watching over us, knows and loves every single one of us. During this time, we took our photos from the Golden Box and placed them in the centre.

We responded to the word of God by singing The butterfly song.

We prayed together to thank God for loving us. Mrs Murphy explained how we can pray anywhere at any time – We introduced Prayer Bear and explained how we can bring prayer into our homes and families.

We finished our special prayer time together by making the sign of the cross.

I know God loves me and I am part of a family.

Families are made up of people who love and care for each other.

Family is a gift from God.

We have enjoyed sharing different stories about family life and special times with our families- The children have enjoyed sharing their family photos.

God made me. God loves me. God loves everyone. God is love. God made each one of us.

God made us, and we are all different and special and good. We shared the story ‘God Made You’ and discussed how we are all different.

We explored ways we are different, such as our looks, what we like to play with, things we eat, like and don’t like. We are different, but we are all special and loved by God. We must treat each other with care because we are all important and loved by God.

We used a mirror to explore what we look like. We shared the colour of our eyes and hair.
