Summer 1
To the ends of the Earth

Growing

As we begin this half term, we reflect on the Year of St Francis and our Catholic Social Teaching focus of Stewardship. Inspired by St Francis’ love for God’s creation, we will encourage the children to appreciate and care for the world around them, recognising it as a precious gift from God.

For the first few weeks of the term, the children will be immersed in the rich world of traditional tales, exploring The Enormous Turnip and Jack and the Beanstalk. Through these stories, we will spark their curiosity and imagination while introducing the exciting themes of growing and healthy eating.

The children will develop and deepen their understanding of seeds, flowers and plants through hands-on exploration and discussion. This learning will be enriched through our seedlings growing in the greenhouse, where the children will observe changes over time and take an active role in nurturing them. As part of our focus on stewardship, the children will learn how to care for these plants by watering them regularly, ensuring they have enough sunlight and handling them gently. In doing so, they will begin to understand the importance of responsibility and how small actions can help protect and sustain God’s creation.
