Autumn

 Autumn 2
PROPHECY AND PROMISE- Celebrations

This half-term is all about celebrations – developing an understanding of celebrations throughout the world and celebrating each other’s differences is a key aim for this learning experience. We begin by celebrating Mary’s Yes, to Angel Gabriel.  The children will learn that Mary was chosen by God.

The children will learn about the different celebrations that might happen during the year; Bonfire Night, Christmas, and Birthdays. How we celebrate them at home and how other people might celebrate them differently. Our learning journey will also be about celebrating ourselves. We will spend time talking about our similarities and differences and how this makes us unique.

Exploring Sound

We have been exploring different instruments this week.  We have been thinking about what noises they make and whether they are high or low sounds. We have been working hard on following the signs to stop and start playing.

Comparing Numbers

We have been comparing two sets of objects and saying which is "more". We were able to understand why it was more – " I know because 3 is bigger than 2."

The Little Red Hen

We have been enjoying exploring the traditional tale The Little Red Hen! The children loved getting to know the hen, bull, cat and rat as they learn about working together and helping one another. Through storytelling, role play and creative activities, we have been busy retelling the story in our own words. The children have shown fantastic teamwork and enthusiasm as they bring this well-loved story to life in our classroom!

The children have really enjoyed talking about their exciting Bonfire Night celebrations. They loved describing the fireworks, bonfires, and the fun they had with their families and friends!
As part of our work on Remembrance , we have been thinking of all the wonderful people who help us in our community and the wider world...
We have started our Fundamental Skills unit in P.E. We are learning to develop our skills in balancing, hopping, running, jumping and travelling direction.

Our school nurses came to visit us today. We have been learning how important it is to wash our hands properly.

Fine Motor and Gross Motor Fun

I know that "2 is made of 1 and another 1."
"Does it matter if our objects are different?    Is 1 and another 1 still 2?"

Today has been World Mental Health Day. We read a beautiful book called You Be You. We know that we can look different to each other, like different things and wear different things but inside we all have a heart that we can use to love and show kindness to all. To celebrate that we are all unique and special, we drew a self-portrait of ourselves.

In Maths, we have been using our counting stick to practise 1:1 correspondence.

Big movements help us to regulate, stay focused and know where our body is. We love to push, pull and stretch.

We have been working hard on finding out how many objects there are when we cannot subitise.

We are working hard on our motor skills...

Busy hands...💪🏼🎵🖌️

I can subitise within 3.

We have been learning to subitise within 3 and make and describe spatial patterns. We have been thinking hard and answering lots of questions.

  • What can you see?
  • What can you see that's not 3?
  • Why are they similar?
  • Can you make a different one?
  • How do we know that it is right?

Celebrating different languages across the world.

At All Saints’ we recognise the power of languages to connect us, to inspire ideas and to broaden horizons. We are proud of the different languages spoken by our children and their families, and we make sure that everyone feels included, listened to, and valued. We took part in a special activity today to acknowledge and celebrate all the different languages.

Look at our amazing talents and skills We can climb, jump, ride, balance and be creative.

I know we should look after others.

Squiggle Time and 'Flipper Flappers'

‘Squiggle whilst we wiggle’ is where we use dance and large movements to help us develop the fine muscle control we need for writing. We learn a new gross motor movement to a piece of music. We dance using this movement and use it to make marks. This could be in foam, on paper or in sand. These sessions are great fun but most importantly, help us to be confident mark makers.

Dough Disco

Each morning we start the day by diving straight into strengthening our finger muscles and developing our gross motor movements.

This supports balance, muscle development, communication, mark making and handwriting and much more!

The children have been looking at patterns . They talked about what they could see and then whether they could predict what would come next. They enjoyed creating their own and telling their partner all about it.

Look at all the wonderful things we have been doing in Reception.

Autumn 1

It’s been a busy start to the new academic year. We are amazed at how well the children are coping with settling into their new environment. Over the past few days (as well as being elbow deep in water and paint) we have been learning about the basic rules and procedures in our Reception class to ensure everyone can play happily together in a safe and well-organised environment. We appreciate that many have never attended a full day in a school setting before and that can be exhausting! We’ve all had great fun getting to know our new friends, and we are so happy you have joined our wonderful class!!

The children are doing very well at coming into Reception independently. We have been showing the children how to hang their coat up by the hook, how to turn the arms of their coat the right way around and how to take off jumpers/cardigans if too hot and place in their tray. Well done Children!

Our theme for this half-term is ‘Creation – Good to be Me’. We will be focusing on the Personal, Social and Emotional Development of your child. We have been getting to know each other a little bit more by doing lots of circle time activities and talking about ourselves.
