October Prayer Service
We were delighted to welcome parents, grandparents, carers, and families to our recent prayer service led by the children. In October, the month dedicated to the Rosary, we focused on the Joyful Mysteries, reflecting on these special moments in the life of Jesus and Mary:
-
The Annunciation
-
The Visitation
-
The Nativity
-
The Presentation in the Temple
-
The Finding of Jesus in the Temple
During the service, the children listened attentively to the Gospel - Luke 1:29-32, which tells the story of the Annunciation. They shared their thoughts on how Mary might have felt - nervous, scared, happy, and excited - and recognized her bravery. Our Year 2 children read the Scripture passages beautifully, while Year 1 contributed thoughtful and insightful answers. To respond, the children sang Gentle Woman and made bookmarks for Mary as a reminder that she is always with us.
They then prayed the Hail Mary together and discussed our mission going forward: How can we be brave like Mary? The children shared personal examples, including, “I was brave when I was on a zip line,” and “I was brave when I started my first day of school.”
We thank everyone who joined us in sharing these meaningful moments of faith and reflection.
World Mental Health Day
For World Mental Health Day, the children celebrated how wonderfully God made each and every one of us. They reflected on how God has given everyone unique gifts and special talents that make us who we are. After listening to the story You Be You, the children drew beautiful pictures of themselves, celebrating their individuality and the special gifts God has placed within them.

Harvest Mass
Today, Year 2 attended their first Mass of this academic year, where they celebrated the feast day of St Thérèse of Lisieux together with Harvest. The children brought in a wonderful variety of food to donate to our local food bank, showing kindness and generosity in action.
The celebration reminded us of St Thérèse’s message of love in the small things we do each day, and how these small acts can make a big difference. By sharing with others through our Harvest donations, the children lived out this message and helped support those in need within our community.
School Values
During our Prayer Time this week, Year 2 gathered together to listen to the Gospel, John 13:34–35. The children thoughtfully planned the prayer service themselves and chose to sing the hymn A New Commandment.
Afterwards, they reflected on the different ways they live out our school values of:
-
Teamwork
-
Kindness
-
Forgiveness
-
Trying Your Best
Each child responded by drawing examples of how they had shown one or more of these values in their own lives. It was especially wonderful to see these values in action at playtime, where the children worked together to build an impressive tower out of blocks — a true example of teamwork in practice!
Creation
During our first half-term we are learning about 'Creation and Covenant'. The children have learnt about how God created the world. They created their representation of creation and explained what is special to them in God's world. The children also learnt about Noah and the covenant God made. The children retold this first book of the Bible through a comic strip.
Stewardship
In RE today, Year 2 learnt about being stewards of God's creation. They shared ways they we can look after God's world. The children mentioned:
- Recycling
- Picking up litter

- Donating clothes
- Planting
The children were asked why it is important to be stewards of God's world. Here are some of their answers:
- `It's our responsibility to look after the world because God is holding the world` - Anna.
- `We have to look after God's world because then it will be nice, if we do not look after God's world, it will not be nice.` Adharva
Our Lady's Birthday
To celebrate Our Lady’s birthday, the children took the lead in planning their prayer session. They chose to listen to the Gospel of The Annunciation (Luke 1:26–38) and gathered together to reflect on the ways they can follow Mary’s example. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how Mary comforts and guides us in our daily lives.
As part of their response, the children drew beautiful flowers for Mary and offered them as a sign of their love and respect. The prayer session concluded with the children singing the hymn Gentle Woman, reflecting on how they can live out their mission to be kind, compassionate, and caring, just like Mary.
Stewardship
The children reflected on God’s message to care for our world and thought about ways they could follow in Jesus’ footsteps. They shared thoughtful and kind ideas, including:
-
“We could smile at each other.”
-
“Pick up litter.”
-
“Love one another.”
-
“Give each other a hug.”
-
“Help someone if they fall.”
It was wonderful to see the children connecting God’s teachings with simple, everyday actions that show care, kindness, and love for others.
